What one man presumed would be a second meet-up with a woman he met on a dating app over the summer turned out be a coordinate scheme that ended as a violent kidnapping and armed robbery.
Miami officers booked Robert Andre Maytin, 20, into jail Friday on kidnapping and armed robbery charges after detectives investigated and determined that he and a woman weaponized the BLK dating app to find and target their victim in July, according to police.
In addition to those charges, Maytin faces a charge of unlawful use of a debit card, because he’s accused of forcing his victim to withdraw money from his bank account. As of Monday night, he was still held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
Information regarding his legal representation was not immediately available.
The woman, who is not named in the report, contacted the victim using BLK on July 18, and the two agreed to meet, detectives note in their arrest report. However, the report reveals she called him on the way to his house, saying her car broke down and that she needed $800 to get it towed.
The victim gave her $600 when she arrived at his house, detectives say.

He agreed to meet again but the woman wasn't alone.
The next day, she called him and asked if he wanted to meet again, to which he agreed. But when she arrived in a white SUV, Maytin was in the back seat. The victim got in the car and sat in the back with Maytin, the report states. The three drove around the Wynwood area before the woman pulled over the car, according to detectives, Maytin then pulled out a knife as he demanded the victim’s money, wallet, and cellphone.
Shortly thereafter, Maytin punched the man in the face and forced him to send money via cash app. The victim transferred $393, according to the report.
The demands continued.
It didn’t stop there. Maytin then demanded more money and the woman drove him to an ATM at 1902 NW 14th Avenue, where police say the victim withdrew $1,000 during several transactions.
Afterward, the couple dropped off the victim, and he walked to a Baptist Heath Urgent Care at 14150 SW 136th Street to receive treatment for facial injuries, the report states.
Last Wednesday, the victim identified Maytin from a police photo lineup, according to the report. Police apprehended him two days later.
It was not immediately clear whether police have arrested the woman.
