What to Know
Police in Ludwigsburg, Germany, shared the report of a missing 3-month-old baby on June 19, 2026. The unidentified child reportedly disappeared from a stroller in Rennigen the day before. They launched a full-scale search to find the infant.
Tragically, they found a body later that afternoon. They’ve yet to release the identity of the baby, but many believe they’ve found the missing infant. Now, police want to know who is responsible.
The baby’s mother reportedly left him in his stroller.
According to a news release, the infant’s family reported him missing around 11:30 p.m. on June 18. Police spokesperson Steffen Grabenstein shared additional information about the missing baby with German outlet BILD.
“The child was left unattended for a brief period. An unknown person lifted him out of the stroller and took him away,” Grabenstein said.
The baby’s grandmother told BILD the mother returned from shopping with multiple bags in her arms. She left the baby unattended for a short time. When she returned, she found someone had allegedly taken her baby.
Police launched a massive search.

Ludwigsburg Police began looking for the baby with the help of the criminal investigation department. Police used helicopters, drones, and search dogs in the hopes of finding the baby. Just before 2 p.m. police announced the discovery of a body in a Facebook video.
“It could be the missing boy. Police operations to identify them are ongoing. Closer circumstances to the finding situation or the death of the infant are the subject of investigation by the criminal police of the Ludwigsburg Police Headquarters and cannot be published at the moment for investigative tactical reasons,” a post translated to English reads.
The case sparked a lot of speculation online.
Several people went to the Ludwigsburg Police Department’s Facebook page with questions about the case.
“They ‘forget’ their children in the car, and here you find a corpse… What’s going on? I know I watch too much medical detective,” one comment reads.
This true crime fan agreed and felt like they could predict what might happen next. “I guess there has already been an autopsy. A result, they probably don’t have it yet.
Then you know the cause of death of young life and have DNA,” they wrote.
Some wanted to share kind words with the first responders and those who searched for an ultimately found the deceased baby.
“Thank you for your service, as well as all the other responders and the spontaneous helpers,” a comment reads.
“So unbelievable! Wishing the first responders, the mother and the whole family a lot of strength,” another person added.
Others offered prayers to the mother, the baby, and the entire family who are now facing what will undoubtedly be a very difficult season of life.
“My heartfelt condolences to the family. Rest in peace little angel,” a comment reads.
This person offered a prayer, writing, “Jesus Mary mother of God raise your hand of protection over the children.. my god so bad really unbelievable.”
The identity of the missing infant and that of the body found by police remain undisclosed. It’s also unclear if they have any suspects in the alleged kidnapping.
