We often wonder how a parent can hurt their own child. These tiny, innocent beings want nothing but love and care, but instead, they sometimes have to face a monster. Some children never even get a chance at life. A baby girl in New Mexico lived for just moments after being born. What the police say her mother did to her might be one of the most disgusting and depraved things we’ve ever heard. Sonia Cristal Jimenez, 36, reportedly gave birth to her baby girl at Burn Lake in Las Cruces. But it’s what she allegedly did next that will make your skin crawl.
According to a news release from the City of Las Cruces, Jimenez went to Memorial Medical Center around 10:30 p.m. February 7, 2026, showing signs of having just given birth, but the mother did not have her baby with her. Police spoke with Jimenez and her unidentified boyfriend, who said they’d been at Burn Lake earlier that evening. He told investigators Jimenez used a portable toilet while there.
When crews arrived at Burn Lake, firefighters pulled a newborn girl’s lifeless body from inside the toilet’s holding tank. Police believe Jimenez gave birth to the baby, cut the cord, and put her in the tank. Her boyfriend apparently had no idea she was pregnant or had given birth, KOAT reported.
Emergency responders took the baby’s body to the New Mexico Medical Investigator’s Office in Albuquerque for an autopsy. The findings are truly disturbing. Officials believe the infant was alive when her mother put her in the portable toilet.
“The autopsy showed that she breathed and swallowed the blue chemical liquid commonly used in portable restroom sanitation,” according to the news release. “The blue chemical was found in the baby’s trachea, lungs and stomach confirming that she breathed and swallowed the liquid while alive.”
Police arrested Jimenez, who faces a charge of felony child abuse resulting in death, per KOAT. Investigators do not expect her boyfriend to face any charges.
We truly cannot think of a more horrifying way to hurt a child. If Jimenez really killed her baby girl the way police believe she did, perhaps she’d like to swim in human waste and chemicals for a while, then ingest them in her lungs.
