As moms, we’ve heard so much about safe infant sleep. Medical professionals warn of putting babies to sleep in places, positions, and with possessions that could lead to accidents and even death. Isais Pascual-Hernandez was just 15 months old when he died on November 14, 2025. Amirah Moodie allegedly put him to sleep in a pack ‘n play with an ill-fitting mattress and sheets that eventually suffocated Isais. Now Moodie faces charges in connection with her young son’s death.
According to court documents obtained by WEVV, Moodie called 911 on November 14 to report her child unresponsive. The 25-year-old mother said her son felt “stiff.” Emergency responders worked on the toddler but ultimately pronounced Isais dead at the scene. When officers from the Evansville (Indiana) Police Department arrived at the home, they were shocked by what they found.
While in the home, detectives apparently found filthy conditions. They reported seeing food, trash, cat feces, and clothing strewn on the floor. The pack ‘n play where Isais died had an oversized mattress wedged to fit inside the bed. The bed had a waterproof sheet with a rubber backing, which could pose a suffocation hazard.
Moodie reportedly told police she took a THC gummy around 6 a.m. the day her son died, needing it to help ease anxiety she felt about finances, per WEVV. She put her son down for a nap around 9 a.m. and didn’t check on him until late in the afternoon. When she finally found him, Moodie told police, he had a sheet wrapped around his neck and his lips appeared blue.
Family remembered Isais fondly in his obituary. “Though his time with us was brief, Isais touched the lives of all who knew him. In a world that can oftentimes seem as though it is a blank canvas, Isais was his family’s paint, bringing it to life with color, his brave and outgoing personality, leaving an imprint on the hearts of his loving family members,” the tribute reads.
Prosecutors charged Moodie with neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Per Indiana law, she could spend the next 20 to 40 years in prison if she’s convicted.
This is such a sad story. It sounds like this family had a lot going on, and poor Isais became the ultimate victim.
