Mom Allegedly Lied to Police About 5-Week-Old’s Death, but Videos on Her Phone Told the Truth

A little baby named Kai’Ella only had five short weeks in this world before she died. The infant belonged to Destiny Faith Chiveral, 24, who proudly posted photos of her little family on social media, but that happiness was short-lived. Chiveral claimed she and Kai’Ella fell asleep together on the couch late in the evening on December 3, 2025. When the young mother awoke the next morning, she said she found her newborn unresponsive — at least that’s the story she told police. Tragically, investigators discovered Chiveral’s story and Kai’Ella’s injuries didn’t match.

When police confiscated the mom’s cellphone, they found shocking Snapchat messages that Chiveral had sent the night of the baby’s death. She now faces first-degree murder charges.

According to court documents obtained by the Cecil Whig, Chiveral told police at her Rising Son, Maryland, home that she fell asleep with the baby in the late evening and that she awoke around 3 a.m. and Kai’Ella was fine. She said she found the infant unresponsive around 9 a.m. Chiveral said the baby “somehow rolled in between a couch cushion and the rear of the couch.” The story must have seemed a bit far-fetched to authorities, who immediately began digging deeper.

Paramedics tried to revive Kai’Ella but noted in their report that “slight rigor mortis” had set in, and they could not easily straighten the infant’s legs. An autopsy revealed her body had blunt force trauma. She had multiple injuries, including bruises and a facial cut.

“Dr. Mininni explained the head injury and brain bleed were caused by a ‘significant amount of force’ and that a simple fall from a couch to the floor would not cause the injuries. Dr. Mininni indicated that the bruise to the front of K.C.’s forehead and corresponding brain bleed were consistent with blunt force trauma,” court documents state, per the outlet.

The medical examiner turned over the autopsy results to the police, who gave the case to the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit. Investigators confiscated Chiveral’s phone and reportedly found damning evidence, the Cecil Whig reported. The mother allegedly became intoxicated during the overnight hours of December 3 into December 4. She apparently sent several Snapchat videos that recorded Kai’Ella crying in the background.

At one point, she reportedly tried to get through a baby gate, but struggled. “I’m too (expletive) drunk for that. I’m just going to (expletive) climb over the (expletive) (expletive),” according to court documents.

In another video, Chiveral addressed her baby’s cries in the background. “She’s (expletive) tri-(hiccup) trippin’ But aside that, like, she’s the chillest baby until she’s (hiccup) mad about something like (yawns) this is the baddest that she’s been in a wh-(hiccup) while and if I can tell you the tea that I know, you’d be like, but honestly I love you but don’t trust you enough to tell you,” she allegedly said, per the outlet.

Chiveral admitted to police that she had consumed alcohol the night before Kai’Ella died but claimed it was just one shot. The story didn’t add up, and after autopsy results came in, investigators reportedly realized why.

Police arrested Chiveral on December 10, nearly a week after Kai’Ella’s death. She faces a first-degree murder charge. Her baby didn’t even have a chance to start her life before it ended. If convicted, Chiveral could face the rest of her life in prison without the possibility of parole. We can’t imagine that night of partying was worth it.
