A child in India reportedly died at the hands of his mother after she and his father allegedly argued about the boy. Savitri Kumar and her husband, Ravi Kumar, were parents to 6-year-old Vinod, who reportedly had hearing and speech impairments. The parents apparently argued about their son's disabilities often, and after a quarrel on May 4, 2024, Saviriti Kumar allegedly did the unthinkable.
The mother is accused of throwing Vinod into a canal filled with crocodiles in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, according to News 18. Tragically, the boy died, and rescuers pulled his mangled body from the jaws of a crocodile on May 5.

The couple allegedly fought about Vinod frequently.
According to the Times of India, Vinod's disabilities were the source of much tension between the parents. They apparently often argued about the boy, and Ravi Kumar allegedly ridiculed his wife for giving birth to a child born with such impairments and suggested she "throw the child away," the news outlet reported.
It appears the mother took his suggestion seriously Saturday night.
The mother allegedly knowingly threw her son into dangerous waters with little chance of survival.
"After a quarrel over the same matter escalated on Saturday night, Savitri allegedly threw her son into a waste canal linked to the crocodile-infested Kali river around 9 pm," Dandeli rural police inspector Krishna Barakeri told Hindustan Times.
Neighbors called the police.
Neighbors contacted the authorities after Saviriti Kumar allegedly threw Vinod's body into a waste canal known to be infested by crocodiles, the Times of India reported. Search and rescue crews joined police in searching for the young child, but because of the time of night and lack of light, they were unable to find him. Sadly, the boy's body was found Sunday morning.
The child's body was seriously injured.
When the child's body was removed from the water, he was reportedly covered in bites and one of his hands was missing, according to the Times of India. His injuries suggested crocodiles killed him. Police arrested both of his parents in connection with his death.

The mother and father were charged with murder.
Per the Hindustan Times, Savitri and Ravi Kumar both face murder charges. According to police, Savitri Kumar is a housemaid, and her husband works in masonry. They were both taken to jail, and an investigation is underway. Relatives are reportedly caring for the couple's 2-year-old son, according to CBS News.
