Michigan mom Soliel Williams trusted Kids’ Avenue Christian Learning Center in Warren. Her 5-year-old son, Amari Dinkins, attended the day care center, and Williams thought everything was fine. But a phone call from an official regarding child abuse claims changed everything. Williams learned that staff at the day care center had allegedly restrained Amari to a chair on multiple occasions. Infuriated, Williams went to the center to take matters into her own hands, and things got ugly.
Amari reportedly has speech delays.
Fox 2 spoke with Williams, who said her son has cognitive speech delays, but he does not have behavioral issues. Williams alleged she learned about the child abuse claims when she received a call from investigators. Children’s Protective Services and Michigan’s Childcare Licensing Bureau began investigating Kids’ Avenue Christian Learning Center after an employee reported the alleged abuse.
Williams could not believe her ears.
She told Fox 2 that an investigator contacted her about the claims, not the day care owner or staff.
“She called me and said there is an investigation going on with Amari and the childcare center, and some abuse with him being held down to a chair with restraints. Like, ‘Oh my God, what are you guys doing to my kid? What type of force are you using?’ Because restraining someone takes a lot of force,” Williams said.
The enraged mother took things into her own hands.
Shakyra Shavon shared a live video on Facebook of Williams showing up at the day care and becoming totally unhinged. We can absolutely understand her frustration, but she might have come on a bit too strongly. After going into the building, screaming at staff, and essentially trying to break in, Williams finally gave up and went outside.
Video of the verbal altercation went viral, and many supported Williams.
Some would have handled the situation a bit differently.
“I would of walked in there so calm just to get inside &once I got in there all hell would of broken loose,” one person wrote in the comments section.
“Soundin like some wounded parrots… can’t even tell what happened or what’s goin on,” another comment added.
Others would have started fighting from the beginning as well.
“Doing all that hollering I would of been swinging so fast, car through that front door about my babies,” another person admitted.
Supporters wanted the naysayers to give Williams a break.
“People laughing but if it was their child smh like who cares how she sounds people childish af worried about the wrong thing,” someone pointed out.
This is most definitely an emotionally charged situation, but without having all the facts, it’s hard to determine who was in the wrong. Screaming and yelling are one thing, but throwing hands is an entirely different situation. We understand the frustration, but Williams needs to keep her emotions in check so she stays out of jail and can help her son.
