Tee’Andrick Lawson died in his Georgia home on April 2, 2025. Two men allegedly broke into the home he shared with his mother, Tasha Lawson, and beat him to death while she was away. The loss of her son was apparently too much for Tasha Lawson, who died from heart complications on April 13. Her family believes she died from a broken heart.
According to News 14, Tee’Andrick Lawson’s death is under investigation, but the family believes his sexuality had something to do with the crime. Officials listed his mother’s cause of death as “aortic dissection rupture, hypertensive, and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.” But loved ones think the cause came from deep inside.
Per a GoFundMe account established for the family, “Tee’Andrick and his mother were inseparable. Their bond was deep and unbreakable – best friends who did everything together. The pain of losing her son was too much for her heart to bear, and just days later, she passed away from sheer heartbreak.”
The page raised nearly $2,300 before it was turned off by organizers.
It’s possible Tasha Lawson really did die from a broken heart. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Broken heart syndrome is a heart condition that’s often brought on by stressful situations and extreme emotions. The condition also can be triggered by a serious physical illness or surgery. Broken heart syndrome is usually temporary. But some people may continue to feel unwell after the heart is healed.” The Mayo Clinic added that death from the syndrom is rare, but it can happen.
Many people took to News 14’s Facebook page to share condolences for the family. One wrote, “So incredibly sad. I fully believe that people can die of a broken heart.”
Another person understood how a mother could die of a broken heart, commenting, “This is the saddest way to die. I could n[o]t even imagine losing one of my babies.”
Someone else commented about a personal experience, writing, “I know of a wife that died shortly after her husband. She was heartbroken.”
“I’m a survivor of Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy’ broken heart syndrome’ it is real and can be fatal if not treated for all sad and or stressed out hearts,” another comment read.
