Mom Mourns 2-Year-Old Allegedly Killed by ‘Doomsday Prepper’ Grandpa in Apparent Murder-Suicide

A welfare check at a Louisiana home led to a heartrending discovery on May 5, 2025. The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office found the bodies of four people dead in an apparent murder-suicide. The coroner’s office identified the deceased as 60-year-old Leroy Sadler, 64-year-old Judy Sadler, 29-year-old James Sadler, and 2-year-old Adalynn Mae Sadler. Now, just days before Mother’s Day, Adalynn Mae’s mother, Kara Hanning, is planning her toddler’s funeral.

According to a statement from the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call in the 10000 block of Mustang Circle in Keithville for a welfare check about 7 a.m. Police tried to communicate with a suspect who allegedly refused. Moments later, deputies reported hearing a gunshot from inside the home.

“Neighbors of the suspect informed investigators that the suspect was possibly a doomsday prepper. Consequently, investigators contacted the Shreveport Fire Department Bomb Unit to ensure the safety of the area,” the sheriff’s department reported. “Once the scene was deemed secure, the investigators began their preliminary investigation.”

Investigators have not named the shooter, but according to People, the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office classified the deaths of Judy Sadler, James Sadler, and Adalynn Mae Sadler as homicides. The shooting reportedly took place at the home of Leroy and Judy Sadler.

Morgan McCarty, Hanning’s cousin, created a GoFundMe account for the heartbroken mother.

“Adalynn Mae was just two years old. She was beautiful, so intelligent, and always full of joy. She was the brightest light in Kara’s life and truly the sweetest little girl you could ever meet,” McCarty wrote on the page. “Instead of spending this Mother’s Day weekend with her baby, she will be laying her to rest. No mother should ever have to feel that kind of pain.”

The fundraiser has brought in more than $21,000 of a $25,000 goal thus far.

Dillan Toney created a GoFundMe account for James Sadler, who appears to be another victim of the horrific crime.

“We are trying to get funds to help cover the cost of everything. James Lee Sadler was such an amazing, outgoing person. He was such a great father and loved everyone. Anything will help if y’all can. Prayers are appreciated, and keep the family in your prayers as they go through this hard time,” he wrote. They’ve raised $500 of a $35,000 goal.

The deaths remain under investigation.
