Mom of Ohio Boy, 6, Allegedly Handcuffed & Mauled by a Pit Bull Faces Felony Charges

The punishment should fit the crime. Most parents and caregivers agree with this when it comes to discipline. Some adults, however, still insist on outdated and even dangerous corporal punishment for children ā€” and tragically, some take their cruelty way too far.

One Ohio mom is facing major charges after her son suffered serious injuries. Two other adults also have been charged with similar crimes following the incident. Horrifyingly, it involved handcuffs and a mauling by a dog.

A 6-year-old Ohio boy was airlifted to a hospital earlier this month.

On August 17, deputies from the Ashland County Sheriff's Office responded to a call in Savannah, Ohio, according to a news release. They discovered a boy in serious condition with bites on his ear and neck. The child was airlifted to a hospital.

The boy was reportedly handcuffed and mauled by a pit bull.

Allegedly, the boy was restrained with handcuffs on his hands and feet when a pit bull attacked him. The boy's mother, the mother's boyfriend, and the dog's owner "physically restrained" the 6-year-old ā€œin a cruel manner or for a prolonged period," per criminal complaints obtained by People. This led to a "substantial risk of serious physical harm.ā€

The dog owner evaded police but was eventually caught and arrested.

The pit bull owner, Robert Michael Michalski Jr., allegedly "left the house" with his dog on August 17, per the release from the sheriff's office. During a search of the home two days later, investigators discovered him ā€œhiding in a cubbyhole upstairsā€ with the pit bull. Michalski was arrested, and the canine was ā€œto be housed as a vicious dog."
