Dad-to-Be Plays Video Games While Mom Powers Through 38 Hours of Labor

Some dads just know how to be prepared, don’t they? Unfortunately, I’m not talking about remembering to send in little Tommy’s money for his field trip, or grabbing the extra diapers for a trip to Grandma’s. In this case, it’s one dad-to-be in a TikTok video who remembered to bring his apparent must-have while his partner gave birth…his entire gaming system.

Look, I get it. If you don’t want to miss an important Fortnite live event, then you want to make sure you have your PlayStation or Xbox with you. That’s totally fine…if you are going on vacation, staying somewhere overnight for fun, or even going to a family event.

But while the mom in the TikTok endures 38 hours of labor, we see a shot of her partner, the dad-to-be, playing video games across the room. Is there really any explanation that would make him look not awful in this scenario?

He actually brought his entire gaming system to the hospital.

In the TikTok, the sister of the mom-to-be points her phone at the mom going through hours of birth in a hospital bed. Then, she pans over to the new dad, who is playing a video game in the room, far from his partner’s side, where he should probably be. The text on the screen says, “My sister has been in labor for more than 38 hours and he hasn’t moved from that chair…”

In a follow-up video, which proves that the initial video is not just trolling other TikTok users, the new mom holds her baby in what appears to be the couple’s home. Another child plays in the room, while the dad — you guessed it — plays a video game. Maybe there is some kind of agreement that the couple has, and maybe these are just two brief snapshots of their life together.

But the fact that the mom’s sister caught this juxtaposition more than once is a bit concerning.

One user who saw comments in the original video in the dad’s favor, was quick to leave theirs. “These comments are actually insane,” they wrote. “No, it’s not normal to bring a gaming set to your laboring wife’s hospital room, you won’t die if you’re bored for a few god damn days.”

Someone else commented, “What’s the point of him even being there then?”

After 38 hours of watching your partner clench her teeth through contractions and breathe through pain, there is boredom, yes. But this is not an opportunity to fight boredom with video games from home. Instead, it’s a chance for a dad to step up and essentially be at his partner’s beck and call as she is stuck in a hospital bed, in pain and discomfort for literal days.

“To be relaxed enough to game while your partner is in debilitating pain and risking her life to bring your offspring to life,” another user commented.

Some women can be in labor, even if they aren’t actively pushing, for days. This appears to have been the case for the mom in the TikTok video. Maybe her sister didn’t need to but the dad on blast on social media, but the image of him playing a video game, with his headset on, as his partner lays pregnant in her hospital bed, is too wild not to share with the world. It’s like a snapshot of what not to do when your partner is expecting and about to push out an entire human being.
