A Texas woman’s two young children allegedly saw a man fatally shoot her on Wednesday, October 2. Witnesses who live in the same apartment complex in the Houston area told KTRK that they saw the children outside that morning and confronted them about missing the bus. One of the children, who is 6 years old, told the neighbors that a man had shot his mom.
The neighbors rushed to the family’s apartment, where they found the mom “gasping for air,” a witness told KTRK. They tried to help by applying towels to the mom’s gunshot wounds and calling 911, but unfortunately, she died from her injuries.

A surveillance camera captured some of what happened that morning. In a video obtained by KTRK, a man walks into the mom’s apartment in Harris County. Someone can be heard saying, “Oh really?” followed by, “Go ahead.” You can then hear the sound of gunshots.
Seconds later, the man left.
Based on the video shared by KTRK, the man appeared to leave the apartment just seconds after shooting the mom. Neighbors told the news outlet that two of the woman’s children, who are 4 years old and 6 years old, saw it happen. One of the neighbors who tried to help by applying pressure to the mom’s gunshot wounds recalled hearing one of the children repeat “Mama.”
The child reportedly tried to comfort his mom, hoping she would survive. Because seeing the woman like that was absolutely “heartbreaking,” the witnesses did not want to say more about it.

The neighbors feel so bad for the children who tragically lost their mom and saw it happen.
Witnesses were horrified, of course, by the shooting itself — and also by the fact that the mom’s young children were there to witness it.
“Like who does that?” a witness said to KTRK, referring to the shooter. “That’s what you call somebody who doesn’t have a heart, who’s heartless.”
“[The] kids are going to be messed up for the rest of their lives because they witnessed it,” a witness told the news outlet. “They saw it. I just really feel for the children. I really, honestly, feel for those kids.”
Police say the mom and the man who shot her knew each other.
As of October 2, police have not released the name of the suspect, but said that the woman and the shooter knew each other. Witnesses told KTRK that they’ve seen the man at the apartment complex before. While some neighbors recalled seeing him at the mom’s apartment before, another neighbor reported seeing him hanging out in the apartment’s parking lot.
Officers have not released more details.
In the video shared by KTRK, the man’s face is not visible — this is because police have not shared his name yet. Police likely have suspect, but they have not released any additional details about the suspect, the victim, or the shooting.
