One of the biggest adjustments of parenthood is the loss of freedom. One day, youâre able to come and go as you please and the next, a little person dictates your every move. Responsible parents adapt to the change by finding reliable child care or simply staying at home more often than theyâd like.
But one young mother didnât choose either of these options. Instead, she allegedly left her 3-year-old son alone while she went and had cosmetic surgery.

Jessica Renteria's son was reportedly wandering an apartment complex for hours alone.
Jessica Renteriaâs toddler was found sleeping on the doorstep of a neighborâs apartment, Inside Edition reported. Before the boy fell asleep outside of the apartment his mother rented for vacation, surveillance video from inside the apartment complex showed him wandering around unattended for hours on June 27.
Cameras also showed Renteria, 25, leaving the complex that morning at 10 a.m. Officers from the Doral Police Department arrived on the scene at 4:15 p.m.

When police arrived, they searched for the child's parents.
Surveillance footage showed the toddler leaving the rental he shared with his mother at 1:15 p.m., Law and Crime reported. By 4 p.m., the child had been alone for six hours.
When officers found him, bodycam video shows how they approached him. âHey, little buddy, whatâs your name?â an officer said. They also asked where his parents were. They knocked on other doors looking for answers: âHello, by any chance, are you missing a kid?â
Renteria claimed a friend was supposed to be watching her child.
Eventually, they identified Renteria as the childâs mother and placed her at a medical facility a few miles away. Body cam footage from officers shows them placing a bandaged Renteria in handcuffs.
Renteria told police that a friend was supposed to be watching the child. The friend told officers he was never informed that he as supposed to be taking care of the boy. At the time of her arrest, it had been 14 hours since she left the apartment.
Renteria was emotional as she posted bond.
Renteria was charged with one felony count of child neglect. According to NBC Miami, Renteria was emotional as she posted a $1,000 surety bond. She entered a plea of not guilty on the neglect charge.
If prosecutors cannot reach a deal this month, she will stand trial beginning on December 2. If found guilty, Renteria could be sentenced up to five years in prison. Her supervision rights will be determined by Department of Children and Families.
