Chilling Video Shows Moments Before Mom Allegedly Shot Her 13-Year-Old & Told Her To Lie About It

A Maryland mother is in jail after she allegedly shot her 13-year-old daughter during a domestic dispute. On September 23, Seat Pleasant police responded to a call in the 500 block of 69th Place and found a 13-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her neck. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. What the teen reportedly told police is disturbing.

The teenage girl said her mother, Talecka Brown, 32, allegedly shot her but told her to lie when police arrived, instructing her to tell them someone else had done it, Fox 5 reported. After reviewing chilling surveillance footage, investigators determined Brown was the shooter and took her into custody. She faces charges of first-degree attempted murder.

The mother and daughter reportedly got into an argument.

According to court documents obtained by Fox 5, Brown’s daughter said she and her mother got into an argument that turned physical. The girl said she started to walk down the steps when she saw her mother had a gun. Brown allegedly fired a single shot that hit her daughter in the neck, and the teen fell to the bottom of the stairs.

The mother allegedly told her daughter to lie.

During the investigation, police learned that Brown allegedly told her daughter to lie about who shot her. According to court documents,  Brown told her daughter to tell police someone experiencing homelessness shot her, News 4 reported. The mother initially told police someone was to blame and that her daughter was bleeding when she got home from school.

After reviewing surveillance footage from earlier in the day, police found Brown and her daughter were the only two people in the home. No one else entered or exited from the time the teen got home from school and when the shooting occurred, per Fox 5. After obtaining a search warrant, police found a Glock handgun inside. According to court documents, responding officers smelled the scent of a discharged firearm inside the home. Brown denied the gun was hers.

The incident has disturbed the community.

Seat Pleasant Police Acting Chief Heyward expressed his discouragement in a statement posted on Facebook.

“I have to commend my officers for their rapid response and decisive actions at the scene. It is always tragic when we have acts of violence within our community, but it is heart wrenching when the perpetrator is supposed to be your protector,” he wrote in the post. “I am glad to hear that the victim is recovering at a local hospital, but the emotional trauma will remain for some time. The Seat Pleasant Police Department is committed to working with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Prince George’s County Police to ensure we hold Ms. Brown accountable for her actions.”

Neighbor Tina Niblack echoed the chief’s statement, telling Fox 5, “It’s disheartening that too much of this is happening today. Domestic violence in any form, even within your own home, is still domestic violence.”

Brown posted an upbeat message on Facebook just hours before her arrest.

At 9 a.m. she wrote, “Sunday funday was a success. I made dinner plus crabs & jerk shrimp salads. Lai’s best friend stayed the night. I celebrated getting my new job! It was a time. Happy Monday, I hope everyone has a blessed week.”

A friend commented, “Glad you had a great day good things come unto those that wait love you all.”

Brown responded, “Thank you so much Gran that is absolutely right I’ve been waiting & praying! We love you so much!!”

Hours later, she was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder. Brown is due in court for a bond hearing on September 25. Per Fox 5, the teen remains in the hospital and will need additional surgery as she recovers.
