Mother & 1-Year-Old Found Dead in Their Home After Baby’s Father Was Struck by Car 10 Miles Away

Sometimes you read a story in the news and there are so many strange details in it that you have to pause and wonder how everything happened in such a way. Sometimes it’s just horrible bad luck, and sometimes there are other forces or people at work that cannot be stopped. An investigations is underway in Australia after a mother and her 1-year-old daughter were found dead inside their home in Brisbane. Strangely enough, the pair were discovered when authorities came to the house to inform the mother that her partner had been struck by a vehicle about 10 miles from the home.

A young teacher and her 1-year-old were found dead in their Brisbane home.

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, police were called to the scene of a traffic crash in Brisbane around 7:30 a.m. on March 12, 2026, after a man had been struck by a vehicle.

Detective Superintendent Chris Ahearn said once officers determined the identity of the man who had been hit, 39-year-old Blake Seers, they made their way to his nearby home in Belivah, ABC reported. What authorities found there was shocking, to say the least.

According to 7News Australia, when authorities went to notify Seers’ family about the incident, they found his partner, Kate Paterson, who had just returned to work after her maternity leave, and their 1-year-old daughter, April, dead inside.

The deaths are being treated as suspicious.

Seers was taken to hospital, where he remains in serious condition under police guard, ABC reported. Ahearn stated that the patient is believed to be the 1-year-old’s father and they had all been living together as a family, but authorities investigating the “nature of the relationship between these people.”

Paterson and her daughter died from stab wounds that were “consistent with an edged weapon,” per ABC. Police are looking at Seers’ injuries to see what was caused by being struck by a car and if he possibly was injured prior to the traffic collision.

Authorities believe Seers may have intentionally ran into the path of the car after fleeing his home that day, 7News Australia reported. “There are some witness accounts that suggest he was running towards where he was hit by the car and already had some injuries to the neck area,” the detective superintendent stated.

It’s a very sad situation, and the neighborhood is shook.

Paterson had just returned to work as a teacher at Windaroo State School, where her colleagues are devastated by the news of both deaths in the family, per 7News Australia. A local resident named Harper Clark told the outlet, “It’s quite sad to know … It’s horrible.”

There is still a lot to investigate in terms of what exactly happened prior to the traffic crash involving Seers. According to 7News Australia, forensic officers are trying to retrace his movements. They’ve placed dozens of evidence markers along a trail from his home to the main road to see what they can figure out. Investigators also hope to find some video footage of Seers in the moments leading up to the collision.

Seers is still unconscious in the hospital and authorities are waiting to speak with him, per People.

Our thoughts go out to both Paterson and Seers’ families after such an unthinkable day that drastically changed all their lives.
