Mom Allegedly Made a Suicide Pact With Her 10-Year-Old Then Backed Out After the Child Overdosed

This post contains information about suicide, which may be triggering to some.

Police have arrested a Mississippi mother in Alabama after she nearly killed her daughter with an overdose of pills. Shockingly, it appears the mother, Brittney Leigh Hensley, 37, made a suicide pact with her 10-year-old, who reportedly ingested the medication at her mother’s behest. It appears Hensley decided not to follow through with the pact after her daughter took the drugs.

The incident reportedly occurred on July 6 in an Ocean Springs, Alabama, Studio 6 Motel room. Police arrived at the motel after receiving a call about a juvenile overdose around 6:25 p.m., People reported. More than three months later, police have finally arrested Hensley, who now sits in a Mississippi jail on a $500,000 bond.

The child reportedly overdosed on prescription medications.

Per People, Ocean Springs Police Chief Ryan Lemaire said when police arrived at the motel, they found the unnamed girl unresponsive. As Lemaire said, there were “several unknown capsules and empty prescription medication bottles in a green backpack” near the child. The medications were allegedly prescribed to Hensley.

The mother and daughter reportedly entered a ‘suicide pact.’

Police said they discovered the pair allegedly agreed to a “suicide pact,” but it appears Hensley changed her mind. Ocean Springs Deputy Chief of Police Steven Dye told People that the mother claimed to have taken the medications just like her daughter. However, her physical state and her claims didn’t make sense.

The mother’s blood work reportedly revealed something shocking.

Dye told People investigators did not release the exact blood work results but that if Hensley had ingested the medication like she said, “she would have been deceased.” Dye added that preliminary findings led police to believe Hensley decided not to go through with the suicide pact.

Hensley apparently left the state.

According to a Facebook post by Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers, police arrested Hensley on October 15 in Huntsville, Alabama. Ocean Springs police issued a warrant for her arrest for felonious child abuse by poisoning. Police later extradited Hensley to Mississippi, where she remains in custody, per online records.

Mississippi Child Protective Services took custody of Hensley’s daughter.

CPS has custody of the 10-year-old, but her condition is unknown, People reported. Just a few months before the failed alleged suicide pact, Hensley shared a contradictory post on Facebook captioned, “Louder for the people on the back.”

It reads, “You can insult me on many things but my ability to be a mother is not one of them. My child is happy, healthy, safe, and loved. Being a mom is my greatest accomplishment and there isn’t one person in this world who can make me believe otherwise.”
