Teaching our kids lessons can be challenging. We want our children to learn and for our message to be impactful, so sometimes, parents go the extra mile to drive the message home. Such was the case for a mom of a teenage girl who just couldn't keep her room clean. The mom was D.O.N.E. and done, and she let her daughter know in a big way.
Somer LeeAnn, aka @sumertyme716, posted a video of her daughter's messy bedroom on TikTok. The teen didn't heed her mother's multiple requests to clean it up, so she put a cockroach in her bed, hoping that would get the girl moving. The cockroach worked, but some think it was a dirty trick.

How many times do we have to repeat ourselves?
We have told our kids to do things a million times, and it gets to the point when enough is enough. Somer LeeAnn was at her breaking point with her daughter's room. A quick video that has amassed 8.8 million views on TikTok shows a familiar scene: dirty clothes, dishes, and trash thrown around.
"When your teen daughter won't keep her room clean, you resort to what you gotta do to teach her a lesson," a caption on the video reads.
Then we see a dead roach placed loviningly-ish on the teen's bed. And then the mom leaves the room.
The teen found the roach, and the fun began.
Somer LeeAnn explained in a follow-up video that she and her husband went to run errands and saw her daughter returning home on the family's Ring camera. She could hear her daughter scream three times and then watched her carry dirty dishes and trash out of the room as she frantically began cleaning up.
"I'd say, all in all, it worked," Somer LeeAnn said with a smile.
She explained that she worked for a pest control company and warned her daughter that this would happen, but she didn't listen. Plus, the hard-working mom said she wants her daughter to treat her things respectfully.
"She's been given many chances. She lives in a house that's very clean, and she chose to not listen. Do I feel bad about putting the roach in her bed? Not even a little bit," the mom shared.
Plenty of people liked Somer LeeAnn's parenting choice.
She turned off comments on the first video, but folks in the comment section on the follow-up video had thoughts. A lot of people thought the little prank was appropriate.
"Life lesson!! Great job Mom " someone applauded.
"feel like you presented what would be a natural consequence. I think good call Mom," another follower responded.
" I just laughed so hard. This is parenting 101 with daughters. They have to learn the hard way," another commenter agreed.
Some wished they'd had a mom like Somer LeeAnn.
"my parents didn't care to teach me like this, and so I had to deal with ants, roaches, and scorpions in my room at a young age, you go mama," someone else shared.
But, of course, others didn't love it.
"you couldn't just communicate like a normal person? Wtf" someone asked.
" Y'all are wild thinking you know Someone's WHOLE life from a 10 second clip Her room is clean and she laughed. TRY it sometime " Somer LeeAnn responded.
"Just Lie to your kids! its way better than explaining or helping them. your not raising an adult. dont be suprised when you get a grown up kid," another person wrote.
" yeah…..bet your kids didn't believe in Santa Claus either huh? Strange I have 3 other productive ADULTS I raised " Somer LeeAnn clapped back.

So, what did her daughter think?
Somer LeeAnn posted a third video responding to a comment that she would be sent to a nursing home for her trick. In that video, the mom and her daughter are in the car, and Somer LeeAnn asks if she will send her to a nursing home and stop speaking to her when she turns 18, both of which the teen nods yes. She also agrees when her mother asks, "Have I caused you immense childhood trauma?"
The daughter then laughs and tells her mom that the room is still messy, so it didn't even work.
"See, guys. It was a funny TikTok that we made, her stepdad and I, and ya'll are getting your panties up in a ruffle while we're laughing at your comments," she said.
Somer LeeAnn, we get it. A mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do. And we promise, if we ever come over to your house, our dishes are going straight into the dishwasher. You don't even have to remind us!
