New Details Emerge in Case of Dad Accused of Spiking Smoothies at His Daughter’s Sleepover

Creepy details are coming out about an Oregon dad accused of drugging his tween daughter’s friends during a sleepover at his home. Michael Meyden, 57, allegedly served smoothies spiked with benzodiazepine at the sleepover, resulting in three girls ending up in the hospital due to severe intoxication. Although no motive has been announced, the girls gave statements to police that appear pretty damning.

The tweens claim Meyden was very involved in their evening and was constantly around. The New York Post obtained a probable cause affidavit that gives insight into how scary the night must have been for the girls.

The father reportedly wouldn’t take no for an answer.

He allegedly made the mango smoothies and forced the girls to drink them. After consuming the drinks, they reportedly began to feel the effects of the drugs and became sleepy. One of the girls frantically texted a family friend for help.

“So I’m ‘sleeping,’ and her dad comes down and [I’m] hugging [one of the other girls] because she was scared, and he kept moving us away from each other but kept doing tests to make sure we weren’t awake,” the girl wrote in a text, per the Post.

“Also, [the other girl] won’t wake up and she did for like 2 seconds, but she kept her eyes closed and didn’t talk,” the girl added before the family friend agreed to pick her up.

The friend picked her up.

Meyden was allegedly slurring his words and appeared intoxicated when the girl’s friend picked her up but didn’t attempt to stop her. When she arrived home and told her parents what was happening, they returned to Meyden’s house at 3 a.m. to get the other two girls.

The girls’ parents took them to the hospital.

The girls were very sick, and their parents took them to the hospital, where they tested positive for benzodiazepine, the Post reported. One girl told a detective at the hospital that she fell into a sleep that was deeper than she had ever felt before. Another claimed to not remember anything after “blacking out.”

Meyden apparently organized the gathering.

According to the affidavit, none of the girls had been to Meyden’s home before and were not particularly close to his daughter. He reportedly made the arrangements because his wife at the time primarily spoke Japanese. According to the Post, he and his wife have since divorced.
