Apparently, if you have something negative to say about President Donald Trump, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will have an answer at the ready. When Trump was seen with what appeared to be concealer (yes, makeup) on his hand, people were curious about what happened. Then, Leavitt shared, according to C-Span, that the reason Trump had a bruised hand that required concealer was from all of the hand shaking he had been doing.
Whether or not you believe that, plenty of Leavitt and Trump’s critics don’t. Leavitt reportedly told the Daily Beast, “President Trump is a man of the people and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other president in history. His commitment is unwavering and he proves that every single day.”
Be that as it may, no one is buying that line.

Maybe if the concealer had been better matched to Trump’s skin tone, no one would have noticed. But when he was seen out on July 15, 2025, people noticed a bruise that was concealed on his hand. It’s a bruise that has shown up on the president’s hand before, though no one has ever heard any serious reason behind it.
So when Leavitt shared that the reason for Trump’s bruised hand with concealer on it was because he is just such a busy and popular man, people were quick to call her out.
On TikTok, one person commented on a video about Trump’s bruised hand and rumored swollen ankles, writing, “What you see on the back of Trump’s hand is referred to as senile purpura or actinic purpura. It’s common on the back of hands of sun-exposed elderly. The swelling could be edema. All signs [point to] an elderly man.”
On another video, someone commented, “Liquid bandage with foundation on top? Probably covering IV marks.” Trump exhibited similar bruising and concealer in February 2025. At that time, his critics weren’t buying what the Trump administration was selling either.
On a Reddit thread about Trump’s hand issue back then, people speculated that the concealer and bruising was from the need for an IV for any number of medical reasons. One of them was potential blood thinners, which are used for blood clots, per the National institute of Health.
Someone else in the thread asked why anyone would lie about Trump needing an IV for medical reasons, with his age at nearly 80. Another person was quick to reply, “Can’t let the dictator appear weak in any form. Better to just blatantly lie to your citizens.”
Clearly, no one has been sold on Leavitt’s claims about the alleged reason behind Trump’s bruising and terrible matching of concealer colors. But as far as Leavitt and Trump are concerned, it’s all because Trump is that busy.
