Having a premature baby can be a traumatizing ordeal. Parents are already forced to face a lot of demons during this tumultuous time, and they are prepared for fatalities. However, they never expect the sad, heartbreaking deaths to be at anyone’s hands, let alone those of a 6-year-old boy.
That is the horror a family in France is facing after they allege the son of a patient is responsible for the death of their premature daughter, Zayneb Cassandra.
On July 11, 2025, People reported the newborn was just 5 days old and was in the neonatal ward at the Jeanne de Flandre Hospital in Lille, a city in northern France, when she was found bloodied and dead, per local reports from France Info. She was on the floor, naked, and had a “bloody” skull.

The baby girl had a “severe cranioencephalic trauma,” which is typically the result of falling to the ground, and she died July 11. The baby’s family claimed a 6-year-old boy had walked around and engaged in “disruptive” behaviors and believe he may be responsible for their daughter’s death.
“He walked around with a chair that he would stand on to disconnect the electrodes,” alleged one of the baby’s relatives to France Info.
According to the family, he referred to the baby as his “doll.”
“He would arrive in the morning at 7 a.m., he spent his time running around the corridors all day,” the baby’s grandparents alleged to La Voix Du Nord. “All the mothers were complaining, a nurse even warned the mother of this child that there was a problem. He was entering the other rooms.”
The family then claimed a witness told them they saw the boy “grabbed her by the diaper,” lost control, and the baby fell on her head.
The hospital released a statement that it would be taking “strict measures” in the neonatal ward to reduce visits.
