Beau and Jackie Shroyer moved their family to Africa to live a life of service in 2021. Before the move, Beau Shroyer worked as a pastor for Lakes Area Vineyard Church near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He and his family moved to Africa to start a new life. According to her social media, Jackie Shroyer appeared to love the missionary life with her husband and five children. But when someone killed Pastor Beau Shroyer on October 25 in a violent attack, no one expected what would happen next.
According to a news release from Lakes Area Vineyard Church Pastor Troy Easton, police have arrested Jackie Shroyer in connection with her husbandâs death. Itâs unclear what role she may have played, but the church plans to care for the coupleâs five children.

Beau Shroyer appeared happy in Angola.
Beau and Jackie Shroyer often posted about their life in Africa on social media. The pastor posted a photo on October 15 of himself receiving a haircut from someone he previously served.
âI got my first haircut at an Angolan barbershop today. Jackie and I helped this young man get his barber license a couple years ago,” he wrote on Facebook. âIt was cool to be his client today. In case youâre wondering, an Angolan haircut costs $0.32.â
Jackie Shroyer also posted happy things on Instagram.
The mother of five, who posts as @mamashroyer, shared a photo of kids enjoying a movie in a theater. She explained that these children had never been to a theater before and typically stayed outside. But that day, they all sat together and felt welcome and loved.
âWe each bought a popcorn and a drink and they loved every minute of it. They couldnât say thank you enough. The oldest boy told me no one else has ever done something like this for them,â Jackie Shroyer wrote. âI reminded them that they are not street trash, they do matter, and they are loved. Each one of them. Iâm sure it will be a day they will never forget.â
Just days later, someone killed Beau Shroyer.
According to Easton, news of the pastorâs death shocked the community.
âAs you all know, our community has been deeply saddened by the death of our dear brother and friend Beau Shroyer, who was killed in a violent, criminal attack in Angola, Africa on Friday, October 25. Today, our grief and sadness has deepened immeasurably as weâve learned that his wife, Jackie Shroyer, has been arrested in connection with his death,” he wrote in the release.
He added that the church plans to care for the coupleâs children. âWhat I can tell you is that the Shroyer children are well cared for, and we will work alongside SIM USA and SIM Angola to ensure that continues to be the case. I also want you to know that we will do what we can to come alongside and care for you, too,” he continued.

Easton has released few details.
He wrote that he would not release details about the case or the family. Easton asked the community to pray for everyone involved, particularly the children.
âThis is unimaginable, and yet it is very real. As a community we must cry out to the Lord for his grace, mercy and comforting presence for the Shroyer children and family. We must honor God and love each other by how we communicate about this, and we must continue to stand together, asking God to do in and through all of this what only He can,” the release continued.
