People Taking Purple Mattress Squishies From Costco Ignites a Viral Debate

It doesn’t matter how old you are — squishies are pretty popular toys, even if you’re not a kid, and somehow, it’s leading to a major problem for one mattress retailer. As Purple’s expanding mattresses are now sold in Costco stores, each box comes with a sample of what the flexible gel mattress feels like, but lately, people have been stealing them all as they become more and more popular, igniting a huge debate that’s now all over TikTok.

The Purple squishy craze is already causing problems.

It’s only recently that Purple mattresses have become available at Costco, which means shoppers can purchase them in store — and feel the little sample of the flexible grid mattress that comes attached to the box, shaped like a mini version of the bed.

There’s just one problem: it’s a little too easy to grab the sample and walk away with it, and as the TikToker in the video above discovered, that means that people have been taking them, which means those actually shopping for these mattresses don’t get to check out the sample to see what the bed feels like before they purchase.

Some people are pointing out that this morally wrong.

As this trend is getting more and more popular, some people have taken it upon themselves to point out that taking the “free sample” from the mattress box is actually stealing.

“This is gonna be a hot take, but y’all are not supposed to be taking those Purple mattress things from Costco. You’re stealing,” one woman pointed out in a video of her own, adding, “The free samples at Costco are at the tables where the people are handing them out, not in a box that somebody else is gonna buy and now they’re missing their little thing.”

While many commenters agreed with her take, others were mad that she called it “stealing.”

“Is Purple paying you or something?” one person asked, and another commenter wrote, “They come out of your check?”

The squishies are available for sale… and at a very reasonable price.

Funnily enough, the Purple brand TikTok account actually commented on the video to point out that the mini mattress squishies are available for purchase on their website… and at $3 a pop, it seems way easier just to order one without even having to leave your house.

Maybe that could be a better plan than risking it all while digging a little squishy out of a cardboard mattress box at your local Costco?
