Police Follow Trail of Blood To Find Wife ‘Unrecognizable’ After Husband Allegedly Beat Her to Death

When police arrived at the Kentucky home of Richard Chesher and his wife, Bonnie Chesher, on March 6, 2026, the husband reportedly did something strange. Standing in the garage doorway with blood covering his hands and face, he allegedly attempted to close the door. Officers from the Mount Washington Police Department eventually made their way inside and found a horrific scene. They found the body of Bonnie Chesher beaten so severely that she was completely unrecognizable.

According to court documents obtained by WBRT, officers from the Mount Washington Police Department arrived at the couple’s home in the 100 block of Williamsburg Court around 9 p.m. As officers approached, the husband tried to close the garage door, but not before police spotted blood and Bonnie Chesher lying on the garage floor.

Police found a club-like piece of wood that had blood on it, WBRT reported. When they went into the house, officers followed a trail of blood that seemed to indicate Richard Chesher had moved his wife’s body. According to WAVE, Bonnie Chesher appeared “unrecognizable” following the beating.

A neighbor told WDRB they couldn’t believe Richard Chesher killed his wife. “It’s concerning,” the neighbor shared. “I’m very sad for the family and the neighborhood.”

She added that knowing authorities put Richard Chesher behind bars gave her some relief. “I feel better that he’s locked up because you just don’t know,” the neighbor explained to WDRB. “You think you know someone kind of and then you see something on the news. It’s just eye opening what people’s true colors are.”

Richard Chesher is charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse, WBRT reported. It’s not clear what prompted the attack or who called 911. Thankfully, he reportedly went with police without incident.

“This poor family!! I cannot imagine their pain!!”  someone commented on WBRT’s Facebook page.

“[P]rayers for the families you never know people anymore,” another person added.

We cannot imagine what could drive a man to kill his wife so savagely. No one deserves that kind of pain. May she truly rest in peace.
