Police Responding to Child Abuse Call Discover Drug Den Hidden in Kids’ Play Area

A Florida man’s alleged drug overdose prompted police to investigate his home, where they made a shocking discovery. Thomas White reportedly overdosed at his Palm Beach Gardens home on September 5, 2025. At the time, someone allegedly saw drug paraphernalia on the home’s deck, prompting a child abuse call to police. Officers from the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department arrived at the home the following day and took two adults away in handcuffs.

Officers arrived at the home in the 2500 block of PGA Blvd. around 2 p.m., CBS 12 reported. They allegedly saw a truck in the driveway with a bag containing a bluish substance. Police spoke to White, who allowed them to enter the home. While inside, police found a white substance in a bedroom that apparently caused one officer to become ill. They briefly paused the investigation and contacted Palm Beach County Fire Rescue’s Hazardous Materials team to clear the home.

When the search resumed, police allegedly found a container with liquid methamphetamine, a stuffed animal with syringes inside, and a burnt pipe inside a black tote bag. White claimed the items belonged to his roommate, Heather Marie Derieux.

Police also found a glass pipe and cocaine on a counter, as well as baggies with a white powdery substance inside a Lego container. The drugs allegedly sat close to children’s toys inside the home. Officers reportedly also found a baggie of cocaine inside a toilet tank later.

Police arrested White and Derieux, who, according to her social media, did not appear to be in a relationship.

According to online records, White faces three counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count of tampering with evidence, and one count of child neglect. Derieux is being charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
