Police Make ‘Horrific’ Discovery After Pregnant Mom Who Is Always on Time Never Picked Up Her Kids

Police in Florida performed a welfare check on a pregnant mother after she failed to pick up her older children from day care on November 12, 2024. When they got to her Hallandale Beach home, officers made a gruesome discovery. They found 41-year-old Delfina Perez Chilel lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom. Her baby’s father, 38-year-old Victor Chavez Sr., lay unresponsive beside her.

An investigation revealed Chavez had allegedly killed the pregnant woman and then attempted suicide. He has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the death of Chilel and their unborn child.

The family typically picked up their children on time.

According to the Miami Herald, Hallandale Beach Police Department representative Grace Mariot said when Chilel and Chavez failed to pick up their children on time, day care staff became concerned. The parents always picked up on time, so day care staff contacted another family member to get the children. That relative noticed the couple’s car in front of their home, but there was no answer, prompting a call to police.

Chavez reportedly has a history of mental health issues.

According to Mariot, Chavez had made threats in the past, so family members wanted police to check the home. Police reportedly found Chilel, identified by her sister in a GoFundMe account, dead and Chavez unresponsive.

“The female victim, who was 20 weeks pregnant, exhibited severe injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene despite immediate medical intervention,” Mariot said.

Police did not release how she died. Chavez reportedly admitted to the crime and tried to kill himself.

Chilel’s sister created the fundraising page to get her sister's body back to Guatemala.

Cosme Abel De Leon Mazariegos explained on the fundraising page that she wants to help raise money to return her sister to her home country. Mazariegos claimed her sister was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of her children’s father.

“She was part of our lives for a little over 41 years and already we feel lost without her and the smile she had for everyone that met her,” she wrote on the page. “I am left to raise her two beautiful children along with mine now. Their lives will not be easy. They are the true victims of this tragedy. I pray we as a family are enough and that we do right by them.”

The GoFundMe has brought in $6,200 of a $20,000 goal thus far.
