What to Know
Taylor Parker’s heinous crimes have dominated headlines following the release of Netflix’s Maternal Instinct. People have a very difficult time wrapping their heads around how Parker thought she could get away with years of lies.
After birthing two children, Parker had a hysterectomy, leaving her unable to bear children. Somehow, she convinced her then-boyfriend Wade Griffin, and plenty of other people, that she was pregnant with her third child.
Parker brutally attacked Reagan Simmons-Hancock and attempted to steal her unborn baby from her womb. Both the mother and baby died, and Parker landed on death row in Texas. Years later, her victim’s mother claims Parker is much more than just crazy.
Reagan Simmons-Hancock still struggles with Parker’s crimes.
Jessica Brookes and Emily Shirley, Simmons-Hancock’s mother and sister, shared their thoughts on Parker during a recent interview with News Nation’s Chris Cuomo. Parker reportedly befriended Simmons-Hancock while photographing her wedding and chose her as the perfect victim. Parker needed a baby, and Simmons-Hancock’s pregnancy matched the timeline she’d invented. Brookes doesn’t believe Parker is crazy; she thinks it’s much worse.
“It’s hard to not say evil, to be honest,” Brookes said. “I believe that she is just evil because it’s so hard to imagine what she did.”
Brookes found her daughter lying in a pool of blood.
Brookes explained to News Nation that she’s never gotten over the scene of the crime. On October 9, 2020, when she couldn’t get a hold of her pregnant daughter, she went to her house and found something no mother should ever see. Brookes explained how instinct took over, and she knew the bloody fingerprint on the doorknob meant something horrible awaited her.
When she found her daughter lying in a pool of blood inside her New Boston, Texas home, she knew she was the victim of a horrific crime. As much as she wanted to find and console her 3-year-old granddaughter, Brookes knew she had to call 911 and get the police to the home as soon as possible.
“I knew I had to preserve the crime scene,” she said. “There was no question that Reagan was no longer with us.”
Brookes said Parker was too deliberate not to be evil.
Parker’s ruse was more than just telling friends and family she was experiencing. She had fake ultrasound pictures, had a gender reveal party, named her fake baby, and even took elaborate maternity pictures. To Brookes, that’s not the mind of a crazy person.
“There’s such a fine line that we use the word crazy so often that it’s just become that’s what a person is if they don’t think the same way a normal person would think,” she said. “But I believe that she is just evil.”
Shirley agreed that her sister was the ultimate victim. “I know no crazy person could have gotten this all strategically planned out like she did,” Shirley added.
Parker currently resides in the Texas Department of Corrections Patrick L. O’Daniel Unit in Gatesville. She’s the youngest woman on death row following her 2022 capital murder conviction.
