What to Know
There is never really a wrong time to take out your phone and film someone spouting racist rhetoric in your face, especially if you can use the footage to make the internet aware of the altercation.
That’s what happened for one woman on TikTok, Sarina Gupta, who posted a video of another customer in line in front of her saying racist and fat-phobic words and phrases at her, seemingly to get a rise out of Sarina. While Sarina doesn’t take the bait in the video, she does continue to record the woman until the woman takes her purchases (shredded cheese and cigarettes) and moseys away.
The interaction drew strong reactions from the internet, however brief it was between Sarina and the other customer in line with her. Some called for the unnamed woman to be called out and lose whatever job she has due to her racist remarks. Others wanted to know the full story of what happened before Sarina pressed record. Luckily for them, she did later share more details of what led to the interaction.
The racist woman’s comments seem to come out of nowhere.

Right at the start of Sarina’s TikTok, the woman is sarcastic and snarky with her at the same time. She comments on Sarina’s appearance, tells her to go back to her “own country,” and stomps off when she’s done with her rant. Because the video doesn’t really have a preface, the woman’s rant seems to come out of nowhere.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Am I taking your time with your big long return, you fat ass?” The woman says, looking Sarina up and down. “Go back to your f–king country
and get your little f–king return done. And stay out of America! Go eat your bacon.” Then she adds, to no one in particular, “Lord knows she has been.”
In the caption, Sarina shared where the incident occurred and asked for help in identifying the woman. She wrote, “POV: you go to Stamford, CT as non-white person and a woman tells you to ‘go back to your country and stay out of America’ in the Grade A Market (ShopRite). If anyone has any information about her please let me know.”
People quickly roasted the woman.
Even though Sarina doesn’t clap back at the woman in the video, TikTok had her back in doing so. Users commented to share their thoughts on the woman after her sudden rant and low blows with racist and cruel remarks directed at Sarina.
One person shared a screenshot of the woman walking away, clad in loose sweatpants and a tank top, and wrote, “I’d be mad too” with a crying emoji.
Another user commented on the woman’s purchase in the video: “Cheese and cigarettes is insane.”
“Where did the bacon comment come from tf,” a user also wrote.
“She’s literally shaking,” another person pointed out. “They have so much mouth but inside they’re terrified of everyone and everything”
Other users took the woman’s comments to be something much deeper: evidence of the state of the United States and MAGA.
“TRUMP DID NOT MAKE THEM RACIST HE JUST MADE THEM TOO COMFORTABLE TO DO THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR,” someone commented.
To the same tune, a different user added, “THIS. IS. MAGA.”
The user posted a follow-up video to explain what happened.

After other TikTok users asked for the full story and context, Sarina posted another video where she goes into more detail about what actually happened before she recorded the woman. According to her, the woman was immediately agitated with her when she suggested the woman take her purchases to another counter when she was annoyed by Sarina’s transaction.
“A lot of people have been asking for story time,” she says in her video. “Honestly, there’s not really much to say. It was my birthday, and I see my grandparents every year for my birthday,
and so I went to their house, and we went out, and we had a lovely lunch, and then I needed to do some returns afterwards. So I went to the store, and the returns were just taking a little bit longer than usual. And that is when the customer, Victoria, began to, you know, get impatient. I suggested that she could go use one of the other registers.
Like, I [had] to be at the customer service desk, because that’s the only place that you can do returns. But there’s self checkout, there’s other cashiers. And so I suggested that she could go to one of those.”
That’s where things took a turn, according to Sarina. The woman allegedly yelled at her to go back to her country, and at that point, she took out her phone to record her.
