What to Know
Even though teachers are vitally important in our children’s lives because they show up every single day to help shape our kids’ minds and futures, there are so many things intrinsically wrong with the educational system and how they’re treated.
A teacher recently went viral after making a TikTok to show the world exactly what her classroom looked like after coming back from summer break. Shockingly, pretty much her entire classroom was covered in mold! She makes a note that since teachers are usually the ones funding all of extras within their classroom, they really don’t make enough money to have to deal with all this nastiness.
This is seriously so unsafe and disgusting.

A teacher came back from summer break to find her entire classroom covered in mold.

In a video shared to TikTok that’s since been removed, a teacher named Alyssa shared a video that showcased her coming back to her classroom after summer break to prep some things only to discover that everything was covered in mold.
With her video titled “First day in my classroom… plot twist: everything’s moldy,” Alyssa shared that coming back into her classroom and finding that everything from her desk chair to posters on the walls to all the books she provided were all covered in a layer of mold was incredibly disheartening.
The teacher went on to share that “this is the reason that no one gets into education,” and since the school turned off their air conditioning during the summer months, they were left to contend with this mess.
She concluded the video by stating that even though she loves her job with her whole heart, teachers truly do not get compensated enough. She also shared that she was going to post her ‘wish list’ with the video so perhaps people could send donations so she could actually afford things like a desk chair. How sad.
People in the comments are sharing how teachers pay for so much of what’s provided to their students.

A lot of folks in the comments section on X were wholeheartedly in agreement with this teacher in terms of how little pay teachers get versus how much they truly contribute to their classroom and students throughout the school year.
One person shared, “I can confirm her claim. When I taught, we got $100 per year to buy classroom supplies. It’s bull s—. If a classroom looks well decorated and happy, the teacher did it with her own money.” Another individual commented, “That is terrible I do agree teachers do not get paid enough.”
A retired teacher took to the comments to share their experience. They wrote, “I am a retired teacher so I understand this teacher’s issues! Without air- everything gets ruined and I feel horrible for her. Her working conditions are unexcusable! Why do teachers have to spend a fortune on getting their rooms ready?”
A lot of people also couldn’t believe that any school district would be okay with children sitting in a mold infested classroom all day. One person shared, “so that’s also an extreme health concern to have children sitting in that classroom all day for the next school year… like i’m assuming that whole building (literally every surface including air ducts) needs to be sanitized an de-molded… she better sue and get a hefty check.”
There are rumblings online that the teacher ended up getting fired after sharing this video.
Since Alyssa’s original video has since been removed from TikTok, there’s been some chatter online that the teacher was possibly fired after sharing the dire state of her classroom that ended up garnering millions of views.
This creator on TikTok shared their thoughts about how they think that perhaps the teacher was let go from their position after so many people viewed their viral video. Someone in the comments shared their thoughts and commented, “Another example of blaming the person speaking out, not the administration. Teacher do pay for a lot of that themselves.”
Another individual speculated about what they thought happened after her video was made public. They wrote, “Oh yeah you said what I said!! 😳😂 The kids will go RIGHT into that room! And she is gone!! Fired! 😳.”
We really hope that’s not what happened, but it’s very hard to say what the truth is here without any proof.
