What to Know
A teenage girl mustered all of her strength and bravery to call 911 and escape a man who allegedly kidnapped and held her against her will. The unidentified girl’s call led the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to a residence in the Florida Keys.
Inside, they found 53-year-old Christopher Michael Veit but did not initially see the teenager. As investigators searched the property, they reportedly found the girl hidden inside. She was not seriously injured but allegedly faced sexual abuse inside Veit’s home.
Authorities arrived at the residence just before noon.
According to a release from MSCO, the teenager called 911 around 11:45 a.m. on June 21, 2026, to report Veit holding her hostage. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the girl hidden inside a clothes dryer.
When speaking to investigators, the teenager alleged Veit restrained her, put her in the dryer, and took her cellphone when she told him she wanted to leave the house on Miramar Drive in Key Largo. The teenager did not show signs of physical abuse, but detectives learned the pair reportedly had an ongoing sexual relationship.
Police notified the U.S. Secret Service for backup.

MSCO reported that, in addition to locating the teenager, they allegedly found evidence, including “several sheets of counterfeit currency.”
Emergency crews transported the teenager to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, then transferred him to the custody of a family member. Authorities contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families, which continues to investigate the case.
Some wonder how the teenager wound up in Veit’s home.
MSCO didn’t allow comments on its Facebook page, but those who shared the story didn’t hold back.
“How she end up talking and meeting guy. This s— needs to stop its worldwide,” someone commented.
Others want justice for Veit behind bars. “I hope he gets proper treatment inside,” a comment recommended.
Some believe that Veit’s behavior has a much deeper meaning.
“The last days are upon us. This has been going on since the beginning of time. Every race creed and culture has this satanic spirit moving through them. God lives in the human heart and so does Satan dwell there. Choose your path. None will escape,” a comment warned.
Veit remains in jail.
Online records show police arrested Veit on charges of kidnapping, interfering with child custody, and four counts of sexual assault. Veit, who reportedly works in sales in Key Largo, currently sits in jail on a $650,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 4, 2026.
The state of Florida has some of the harshest penalties for sex offenders in the country. In March 2026, Governor Rick DeSantis signed two bills that would increase penalties for violent criminals and sexual offenders. “These bills protect Florida families, especially children, and hold criminals who harm them accountable,” DeSantis shared on Facebook.
According to Florida law, depending upon the age of the victim, Veit could spend decades, or even life, in prison if convicted.
