A 14-year-old girl arrived at a Louisiana hospital seeking medical care on November 21, 2025. When speaking with staff, she apparently made a shocking confession: The teenager said she’d recently given birth to a baby at home. Sadly, when deputies from the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Department went to investigate, they found the infant dead. Now the teenager faces murder charges.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, the infant died a brutal death.
“LPSO Deputies then relocated to the home (located in Denham Springs). There, it was discovered the teen delivered the baby and then placed the infant in a ‘tote’ to conceal it,” Sheriff Jason Ard shared. “When emergency responders located the tote, they discovered the baby inside – deceased – with extensive injuries to the neck. The 14-year-old female was originally charged with Failure to Seek Assistance and Obstruction of Justice in the death of her newborn daughter.”
An autopsy confirmed the infant’s death was a homicide. Ard stated medical professionals believe the teenager hid her pregnancy from family but carried the infant to term. She allegedly killed the baby immediately after birth.
According to Louisiana’s Safe Haven Law, a parent has up to 60 days to surrender their infant, unharmed, without fear of prosecution. The state’s website has many resources to help parents in need. Sadly, this situation sounds like a terrified child faced with an unimaginable challenge.
“The teen is now in Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center facing an additional charge of First Degree Murder,” Ard added in the news release. “As you can imagine, this has been a difficult case for all First Responders involved. Please keep them – and, the family – in your thoughts as this very sensitive investigation continues. Due to the nature of this case, no further details can be released at this time.”
It’s unclear whether she will face trial as an adult or juvenile.
