2 Teens Accused of Killing Texas Mom Isha Goff While She Shielded Her Sons From Bullets

Police in Texas have arrested two suspects in the fatal shooting of a mother on February 23. Isha Goff, 37, was driving with her two sons in South Houston when two suspects approached her vehicle and began shooting. The mother was reportedly hit while shielding the boys from the gunfire. Tragically, she succumbed to her wounds.

A month after the deadly shooting, police have announced the arrest of two suspects. Leashtian Blanks, 17, and an unnamed 16-year-old male are in custody in connection with Goff's death. Loved ones hope the arrest will lead to justice for the mother they call a hero.

Isha Goff was headed home with her sons.

According to a news release from the City of Houston, Goff and her sons were in her vehicle near 3100 Elmside Drive around 8 p.m. when the suspects began shooting into her car. Goff reportedly sacrificed her own life to protect her boys, who are 13 years old and 3 years old. Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene, but sadly, Goff did not survive. Her children were not harmed.

Goff's godmother and pastor, Gladys Pratt Seahorn, told ABC 13 she was glad to see the suspects arrested.

"I am happy that justice is prevailing, but it saddens me to know that these are teenagers, one just three years older than her son. It’s just heartbreaking that children are walking around with firearms, guns, and with so much evil and anger in their hearts," she said.

One of her sons reportedly witnessed the terrifying ordeal.

The eldest boy watched his mother get shot, according to KTRK, and told the family what happened.

“These two guys, out of nowhere, walked slowly across the street and decided just to stop in front of her car. When she tried to make them move by honking, they began to the tirade of shooting," Seahorn said the boy shared, KTRK reported. "They shot the tires out first in order for her not to move. And then she had two of her sons, two children in the car with her. She was shielding the oldest one.”

The area where the shooting occurred is well-known to police.

KTRK reported that although it is unclear whether Goff was targeted or the victim of a random attack, police have been called to the exact intersection 26 times this year alone.

Early on, police thought the suspects might have been in their early 20s but later identified them as two teenagers through the course of the investigation.

This isn’t Blank’s first scrape with the law.

The 17-year-old was under supervision from a prior felony at the time the deadly shooting occurred of the shooting, per ABC 13. It is unclear if the 16-year-old has a police record. Blanks is being held on a $150,000 bond.

The family is trying to help the children cope.

Goff's godmother said she is doing her best to help Goff’s three children understand what happened. In addition to the boys, the mom also had a 1-year-old girl.

"We can't say it'll never happen to us because the possibilities are so there. When it does happen, it's just like I am now – you don't know what to say," Seahorn said, per KTRK. "We believe that justice is going to come forth. This is why I'm doing this interview, in order for people to know that danger is lurking and danger needs to be taken off the streets."
