A Georgia family is mourning the loss of their toddler, killed in a heartbreaking accident at their home. Lauren Evans was pulling into her driveway on June 5, 2025, when her 19-month-old son, Carson, darted in front of her car. Sadly, Evans reportedly didn’t see Carson and hit him with her car. First responders pronounced the toddler dead at the scene. As the family grapples with the loss of their beloved boy, experts assure the public that Carson’s death was a tragic accident.
Jones County Coroner Matthew Jarratt told WMAZ the accident occurred in the Clinton Crossing neighborhood in Gray, just before 1 p.m. The coroner told The Macon Telegraph that Evans pulled her 2019 GMC Acadia onto the driveway while Carson and her husband played. The child reportedly darted out in front of the SUV.
“He was out of her line of sight,” Jarratt told the Telegraph. “She couldn’t have seen him.”
The grieving mother took to social media to share the news and photos of her beloved baby boy.
“It is with the heaviest hearts that we share the news of our baby boy, Carson James, passing away unexpectedly. At just 19 months and 3 days old, he brought immeasurable joy and light into our lives. His infectious laughter, bright eyes, bow legs, and sweet cuddles filled our days with love and happiness that no words can express,” she wrote on Facebook.
“Carson James was a curious and adventurous little boy who loved his Papa and brother [fiercely], wherever they were he wanted to be too. He touched so many lives in his short time with us, leaving an imprint on the hearts of everyone he met,” Evans added. “We are completely heartbroken and struggling to imagine life without his precious presence. His legacy is going to live on and others lives will be changed in a positive way because of him.”
“I am so sorry. My heart hurts so much for yall. No parent should ever have to experience this. Praying for yall,” a friend commented.
“Lauren, Cody and Tyson, we are so incredibly devastated to hear the news of sweet, rambunctious Carson,” another person shared. “We love you all so much, you all are in our thoughts and prayers.”
Evans is not facing charges in Carson’s death, WMAZ reported.
