Beauty and ugliness are subjective, and regardless of what the internet tells you about your profile picture, the way you look in general, or how your outfit makes your weight appear, there are usually other people who will say something wildly different. Still, one couple is making headlines for being the supposed “ugliest couple on the internet.”
The pair, David and India, met on Facebook and fell for each other right away. They shared their story with the Love Don’t Judge YouTube channel. The channel is dedicated to sharing real life stories of people who share what appears to be unconventional relationships. For David and India, that means facing criticism for how they look, but loving each other anyway.
The couple met on Facebook and instantly fell in love.
David and India explain in the YouTube video that they receive a lot of hate on social media for the way they look. India is a trans woman with tattoos on her arms, neck, face, and the majority of the rest of her body. David is a smaller white man who is missing some of his teeth. By that logic, according to them, they are a target for internet haters.
“People say some of the meanest things to us,” India says. “They say I look like a monster. They say I look like the damn Gremlin woman.”
David adds that people tell him, “This is a man on man. Why do you keep calling her your wife?
India also says that people often comment to tell her she “messed up” her face with tattoos. But, despite what the internet tells India and David in the comments on their social media posts, they are happy together and have been since they met on Facebook.
“The trolls say that we the ugliest couple on the internet, but we don’t care,” India says in the video.
David says that people make comments on his teeth, which are the result of a work incident he doesn’t go into further detail about. The comments they get, according to them, range from claims that one of them is somehow using the other to direct digs at the way they both look. India says in the video that they have “tough skin.” With the way people talk to them through social media, you’d have to.
“These are some of the comments we get on Instagram and Facebook,” India shares.
“Someone says, frightening. Y’all need Jesus. No soul. Lord have mercy. They say I look like a monster. They say I look like the black Grinch. They say I look like the damn Gremlin woman. What is it? They talking about, what am I? They crazy. They always say that we’re crackheads.”
The comments on India’s Instagram match up to what she and David say about people calling them the ugliest couple on the internet. Some users share gifs and photos of Greta the female gremlin from the movie Gremlins under one of India and David’s videos on Instagram. Under another video of the pair, someone commented, “A white dude can actually marry anything.”
For India and David, though, these types of comments roll off their backs for the most part. It’s about making content and sharing their love with the people who readily root for them.
