A Utah mother reportedly passed out drunk in the bathtub with her infant, subsequently killing the 2-month-old baby. The Utah County Sheriff’s Department responded to a home in Eagle Mountain on March 7, 2025, following a call about an unresponsive infant. First responders tried life-saving measures but could not revive the baby. The infant’s mother, 24-year-old Taylor Nichole Trusty, allegedly shared a heartbreaking story with investigators about what happened.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s department, deputies observed “concerning signs of possible neglect” and contacted detectives for backup. Investigators spoke to Trusty, who allegedly admitted to drinking a “large amount” of alcohol on the evening of March 6. She then decided to take a bath with her baby.
“Trusty admittedly had a history of falling asleep in the bath for hours. Trusty admitted to bringing the victim into the bathroom with her and placing the victim in a bouncy chair next to the tub,” the release explains. “Trusty stated that during her bath, she had picked up the victim and placed the victim on her lap in the tub, just above the water line.”
The mother was reportedly awoken about two hours later by another child who was “concerned about the victim being face down in the bath water and partially under Trusty’s knee,” the release continues. “Trusty picked up the victim, who was not breathing, while the other child ran to get help from other family members.”
The other child was Trusty’s 7-year-old daughter, according to KSL.
The news outlet reported that when police took Trusty into custody, she spit on the center console of the patrol car.
According to online court records, Trusty faces a charge of negligent homicide, damaging a jail or place of confinement, and possession or use of a controlled substance. She is being held without bond.
The story shocked many people who commented on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook post.

Another commenter shared kind words for police: “These poor officers who have to deal with these heart breaking situations!! I hope they get the help they need as well,as surviving children who had to witness this!!!”
