A young mother in Taiwan gave birth to her baby inside her apartment on November 28, 2024. The birth occurred around 3 a.m., and in the moments that followed, something devastating occurred. The mother, identified only by her surname Xia, allegedly did the unthinkable following an argument with her ex-boyfriend. Instead of caring for and nurturing her newborn son, the mother allegedly threw him from a window at her high-rise apartment building. Initially, police and medical professionals had conflicting thoughts about what happened to the newborn. But after a lengthy investigation, they determined his death was a murder.
According to a report by The Sun, investigators spent nearly a year looking into the case. A local report alleged 22-year-old Xia and her ex-partner, identified as Zhuang, became involved in an argument. Xia reportedly threw her newborn son out the 11th-floor window in “a fit of anger.” The infant landed in a bed of flowers but died from serious injuries received in the fall.
Police initially investigated the case as an accident, but doctors weren’t so sure after the baby arrived at the hospital, The Sun reported. Kao Ta-Cheng, director of the forensic medicine department at Chung Shan University Hospital, said the parents argued over the identity of the infant’s father.
The couple, who got together in 2021, also share a daughter. They reportedly broke up in 2024. After the birth, Zhuang questioned whether he was really the baby boy’s father, per the outlet. This apparently enraged Xia, who allegedly made the drastic and deadly move.
Police arrested Xia on November 26, 2025. She faces a murder charge under the Child and Youth Welfare Act. A jury will hear her case.
This is so tragic. No one wins. Sadly, that poor baby boy barely took his first breath before he took his last.
