When a Florida father was found dead in a canal while on a weekend getaway with his family in 2021, police knew it was homicide. David Rainey, 52, had traveled to Suwannee from Palm Coast with his wife, Cindy Rainey, and their sons, Jack Rainey and Bailey Rainey. The vacation ended in an unexpected tragedy.
After two years, police have announced the arrest of Cindy Rainey and the couple's sons in connection with David Rainey's death.

Cindy Rainey reportedly told police she and her husband had argued.
According to People, Cindy Rainey reported David missing on the morning of July 25, 2021, and allegedly said she and her husband of 21 years had an argument, and David Rainey took off. He reportedly left without glasses, a wallet, or a cellphone. Police began an "extensive search," the news outlet reported.
When authorities found David Rainey, it appeared he had died a brutal death.
The Dixie County Sheriff's Office reported that David Rainey's body was found on the evening of July 25 in a canal behind the house the family rented while on vacation.
"Investigators with the Dixie County Sheriff's Office found David Rainey deceased in a canal behind their rented residence. David Rainey had multiple stab wounds to the chest and had been placed in the water after his death," the release reads.
Investigators ruled the death a homicide.
More than two years after David Rainey was killed, police have made three arrests in the case. According to the sheriff's office, investigators arrested Cindy Rainey and Bailey Rainey in Bunnell, Florida. Jack Rainey was arrested in Orlando, Florida. Each of them faces charges of tampering with evidence.
Many commenters on the sheriff's office Facebook page were happy to hear about the arrests.
"It's about time! Now what about the other person involved??? May Dave RIP and the truth finally come to light and all be held responsible … with justice finally being served," someone commented.
"Not surprised at all knew them for years it was always something with them back home and thankfully they're going back to Dixie county," one person wrote.
Others hope someone will admit to what happened.
"One of them needs to come forward and tell the truth! Their father deserves that because without him they would not even be living this now miserable existence. The guilt would be more than someone should bare!" one reads.
"Great work but sadly, stabbed numerous times crazy and over what?" someone else questioned.

After his death, a GoFundMe account was created to help David Rainey's sons.
A GoFundMe page created by "Bailey Jack Rainey" in 2021 asked for donations honoring David Rainey to benefit his sons. It featured of a photo of David Rainey and the boys on the beach.
"In lieu of flowers in the loving remembrance of David's life the family asked that a charitable donation be made to his son's Bailey & Jack for their future. Thank you & god bless!" the post reads.
The account raised $475 before donations were stopped.
According to People, Cindy Rainey and Bailey Rainey were being held at Flagler County Jail without bond, and Jack Rainey was in Orange County Jail. Information about the suspects' legal representation was not yet available.
