Woman Discovers Hidden Dishwasher Function That Will Have You Rushing To Check Your Own

The internet, or really, social media, has a way of making us re-think everything we thought we knew about our favorite household appliances. That might be a tad bit dramatic, sure, but a woman on TikTok discovered something her dishwasher can do that I personally had no clue about. And, for many, it could be a legit game changer. That is, if you need to use your own dishwasher for this specific function.

When it comes to hacks, tricks, and tips, social media can be a powerful tool. How many TikTok users do you follow who habitually let you in on secrets about how best to use a kitchen gadget or even a feature in your car that you didn’t know about before? Even if the answer is that you’ve only benefited from this sort of advice once or twice, then you get it.

Some people reported back to confirm the dishwasher hack is legit.

@frun.pa.landet Känner mig så dum som inte visste om denna funktionen förrän i år?!?! 🤣🙈🤦🏻‍♀️ #learnontiktok #städa #diskmaskin #städtok ♬ Hard Times – Paramore

In the TikTok user’s video, she shows her dishwasher. More specifically, she shows a close-up view of the top rack. At first, she can’t put the top rack back with a wine glass set in it, stem side up. She then flicks a little knob on the side of the rack and the rack lowers just enough to allow her to push the rack back into place and allow her wine glass to be washed in the dishwasher. Mind=blown, right?

In order to put the rack back, she just has to use the same little lever and pop it up back into its original position. While the hack with her dishwasher allows more space up top, it doesn’t really take any noticeable space from what the bottom rack needs in the dishwasher. If you find that your dishwasher does not have this function, it might be a little disheartening. However, other users in the comments were quick to check their own dishwashers and comment back about their findings.

“Omg I haven’t ran so fast in my life,” one user commented. “IT WORKS!!!”

Another added, “I was today years old when I found out about this. Just checked and it is true.”

Someone else commented that they, too, went “running and screaming” to check their dishwasher. In the TikTok video, the dishwasher that the user has appears to be a Bosch, which has what it calls its RackMatic system. The idea is that the top rack can be lowered to make space for things like wine glasses. Or, it can be raised to make room for larger things in the bottom rack.

Of course, if you are a stickler for details, you might already know about this hack as soon as you buy the dishwasher. And it isn’t the only dishwasher brand to have a feature like this, just in case you’re a little disappointed to have that GE or Samsung in your kitchen right now. As one user pointed out in the comments under the TikTok about the dishwasher, you can find tips like this in the owner’s manual. Then again, where’s the fun in that?
