Woman Says Accused Smoothie-Spiking Dad ‘Kept Track’ of Her Kids, Had an Unusual Interest

An Oregon dad who allegedly drugged a group of young girls at a slumber party allegedly had an affinity for children. Michael Meyden, 57, reportedly hosted a sleepover for his 12-year-old daughter and her friends at his Lake Oswego home on August 26, 2023. While the girls were there, the father reportedly made them smoothies spiked with benzodiazepine, causing some of the girls to become extremely ill.

Meyden turned himself in to police on February 27 and reportedly posted a $50,000 bond several days later. According to the New York Post, a former coworker thought Meyden appeared to be a nice guy who loved kids, but looking back, things may not have been what they seemed.

According to his since-deleted LinkedIn profile, Meyden worked in human resources and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Canada. At one point, he reportedly worked in HR for a clean energy company, Avangrid.

A former colleague who worked with him for about two years at Avangrid told the Post she thought Meyden was just being friendly. "He always wanted to know about our families," she said.

Meyden allegedly had a great interest in the woman's children.

The coworker, who was not named, claimed Meyden wanted to know more.

"He'd ask about my kids, how old they are, what extracurriculars they liked. Then he'd tell me what his kids were up to. It seemed really innocent at the time," she told the Post.

The woman connected with Meyden on social media, and he reportedly engaged with her profile. "He was the one coworker who would like my daughter's cheer pics on Facebook," she said.

Meyden apparently knew a lot about children.

The former coworker said Meyden took a particular interest in her children and wanted to know more about them.

"He would ask questions about her, he knew my kids' names and ages. He kept track of that stuff. I thought he was just being nice," she explained, per the Post.

Looking back, she wonders if it was more than just friendly banter.

The dad reportedly has no contact with his own children.

He and his wife divorced two months after the alleged drugging incident, per the Post. A relative of his ex-wife, Yukiko Ishida, told the newspaper no one trusts him.

"The violation of trust is the worst betrayal any of us in the family have ever experienced," Ishida said.

Ishida added that Meyden's children reportedly now have nothing to do with him, claiming, "He's not fit to be around children, and I don't think his own kids will ever talk to him again."
