What to Know
There is such a thing as medical professionals catching serious diseases and even cancer extremely early. But one person on TikTok by the name of Kate opened up in multiple videos about catching her diagnosis herself because she could literally smell it on herself. She had it confirmed by a doctor and a treatment plan was made.
But, uh, sis, can you share the secret with the rest of the class? If it’s possible to sniff out a disease, whether it’s serious or more benign, I think we’d all like to know how to do it. But it’s also a wild concept to be able to smell something that, to most people, doesn’t really have a scent to it.
The woman said there was a smell she couldn’t get out of her clothes.
@itstookate Yes, let’s put y’all’s apathetic jokes over a persons vulnerable experience that y’all are lucky to have shared with you. I’ve answered what it smells like in multiple follow up videos that can easily be found by clicking on the playlist at the bottom of this video named Cancer Smells. If it doesn’t show on your screen, it’s very easy to find at the top of my profile…come on guys.. let’s take the time to try to find things instead of not using your brain. In Kate’s initial video about smelling cancer on herself, she explains that there is indeed a distinct smell that she detected that she could not get out of her clothes or off her body. It wasn’t until. After her treatment and after she was cleared and cancer-free that the smell went away. But don’t go thinking you’ll be able to sniff out your own diagnosis because, according to Kate, she has a nose like a “hound dog.”
“It is a blessing and a curse,” she says in her first video about her diagnosis. “Kept pushing for more diagnostics, and I finally got diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Did a little bit of Tituxan infusions, and it went away. And I stopped smelling like cancer. And I was finally able to get the smell of cancer out of my sheets, out of my home, out of my clothing. A few months later, I noticed the smell is back in my house. And sure enough, imaging confirmed that lymphoma was back.”
Per Kate, the doctors hadn’t even picked up on her initial diagnosis until she herself pushed for more testing. And it’s a good thing she did. She goes on to explain in her video that she later noticed another similar smell that was a little different. And, sure, enough, she was then diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
“Essentially, cancer is death,” she says. “So you smell like death, and then you get wafts of it, Especially when you think that, oh, this is clean clothes, so it should smell delicious, like yummy laundry detergent, but there’s the Grim Reaper in your clothing reminding you time is precious.”
In a follow-up video, Kate agrees with a commenter who asked if cancer “smells like a hangover.” Kate admits that it’s not “exactly” what she smells, but it is, for her, a good way to describe it.
“So think of all the nasty smells that go into a hangover. You’ve got lots of toots and farts, right?” Kate says in the other video. “Probably got some puke and vomit going on. So you get the, you know, putrid smell from that, the acid smell, then a little bit of musk. Not musty. Musk is what I’m talking about in this current moment, because it’s probably pee your pants. Maybe you slept in them jeans. But then, Of course, you actually are musty. And the musty is the biggest one, right? Cause you slept in all that nastiness and then it’s stale. It’s like the air has not circulated. That’s gross. It kinda smells like musty mildewy, moldy.”
She also gets a visual with the smell.
@itstookate Replying to @Brittany Nett I think I need to do a spin off series on my Synthesia lol #cancer #synthesia #fyp #storytime #funny ♬ original sound – itstookate🧿
In another video Kate posted after people need more clarification on what she’s talking about, she explains that she also gets a visual picture when she smells cancer on herself. She describes the visual as a “dust cloud.” And that makes sense, given the dark nature of what we’re talking about here.
Kate also mentions a “yellow bile color” in the mix. It sounds like the visual with the smell is about toxic waste and things that aren’t exactly sunshine and rainbow-themed. People in the comments shared similar stories of being able to detect something on themselves or even other people around them based on specific smells.
She has shared if she can smell cancer on other people.
@itstookate Replying to @1SillyOwl Maybe if there was a strict protocol of required cleanliness lmao #humor #cancer #storytime #funny #fyp ♬ original sound – itstookate🧿
If Kate can smell it on herself, then maybe this is her super power and she can smell cancer on other people before it’s even detected, right? Well, maybe not.
She addresses this in another TikTok, where she says she would rather not try and smell other people. Because her sense of smell is already so sensitive, the last thing Kate wants to do is go around sniffing everyone. Can you really blame her?
