I remember when I brought my daughter home, I was a mess of hormones and tears. Together, my husband and I would listen to songs and cry (mostly) happy and joyful tears. Truly, it's a transition unlike any other. And that's assuming the new mom has no postpartum issues or anything like that.
The postpartum time is kind of like the mother of all PMS periods, is it not? During that time, both times in my life, I became well acquainted with maudlin, depressing music, but I also listened to a lot of sweet songs that reminded me how lucky I was and how in love with my baby I was feeling.
With that in mind, here is a great playlist of 6 songs about parenthood that will make you weep and make you remember just why you became a mama in the first place.
"Love of My Life": This one by Carly Simon is a killer and so, so true. Some lyrics:
From the moment I first saw you, the second that you were born, I knew that you were the love of my life, simply the love of my life.
How is that for parenthood? Here it is:

"Baby Mine": There is no song that epitomizes the love of mommy for child than this one. I challenge you to get through this without weeping. Seriously. Just try it. Here it is from Bette Midler:

"Child of Mine": This one from Bill Staines isn't as well known as some of the others, but it really does have the sentiment that all new moms and dads feel together. Some lyrics:
There is a road, and that road is all your own
But we are here, you need not walk alone.
To face, not fear each coming new unknown
Is the way to lift your wings.

"Danny's Song": I love this one because it isn't just about being a mom as much as it is about being part of a family and falling in love with everyone in that family all over again.
Some lyrics:
People smile tell me I'm the lucky one.
And we've just begun,
I think I'm gonna have a son.
He will be like him and me.
Free as a dove conceived in love.

"Daughter": If you have a daughter, this song will kill you. Loudon Wainwright hits the nail on the head with this one. Some lyrics:
That's my daughter in the water
Everything she owns I bought her
Everything she owns.
That's my daughter in the water,
Everything she knows I taught her.
Everything she knows.

"A New Day Has Come": This one may be cheesy, but to me it says all I need to know about what becoming a mom was like. It was like a new day. Some lyrics:
Through the darkness and good times
I knew I'd make it through
And the world thought I had it all
But I was waiting for you.
