So DILFs are a thing now. And there's even an Instagram account documenting the many DILF sightings around Disneyland. But scrolling through the images of schlubby, cute dads cruising around a theme park made me wonder, why does it look so easy to be a DILF?
The Instagram account, DILFs of Disneyland, a riff of the MILF ("moms I'd like to eff") moniker, is cute, maybe a little creepy and stalker-esque, but fun. It showcases all sorts of handsome dads, generally in tank tops, pushing strollers, and escorting their teeny princesses around the "Happiest Place on Earth." But after spending more time than I'd like to admit scrolling through the pictures, I will say there are a couple of things that really started to bug me.

First, apparently only white dudes can be DILFs. I couldn't find even one image of a guy of any color other than white. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but it seemed worth mentioning. I guess the chicks behind this account have a very definite DILF type.
The other problem with DILFs of Disneyland is how ridiculously easy it appears to be a DILF. Apparently all you need is a ball cap, some shorts, and maybe a beard to be a DILF.

Now compare these stroller-pushing bros to what it looks like to be a MILF. These guys don't even need to take a shower to be hot. Women, on the other hand, don't have the luxury of rolling out of bed and just doing their mom thang and still being considered sexy.

Take this picture from DILFs of Disneyland of Kourtney Kardashian and her baby daddy Scott Disick along with their son, Mason. He's the DILF and she's just another mom at Disneyland with Mickey ears and a fanny pack.
In order for her to look more MILF-y, she'd need to turn the sexy up to 11 like her sister did in Fergie's new "MILF $" video.
So just for comparison's sake, here's another DILF…

The point is that men get celebrated and drooled over for doing very ordinary dad things. Moms, on the other hand, in order to be sexy, need to put on sexy costumes, stilettos, and gobs of makeup to hit MILF status. It's a double standard that shows how little value moms and mom-type work have in our society. While men can just walk around a theme park pushing a stroller and be admired as sex gods, moms have to adopt the persona of a blow-up doll and pretend they're someone else entirely. And it just seems unfair.
So go ahead and enjoy the many images of white dudes in comfort clothing meeting their basic parental obligations on DILFs of Disneyland. But just remember that walking right behind most of these bearded bros is a woman who is tired and probably not looking the way the world would consider sexy at all. And it's worth taking a second to ask why that is.
