No matter how old your child is, having the sex talk or discussing anything having to do with intercourse can be awkward. Especially when your child initiates the conversation and gets personal, probing about what goes on between mom and dad, it can easily catch a parent off guard and leave him or her wondering the best way to answer — be truthful or set boundaries? An anonymous mom was caught in a situation when her tween sprung an unexpected question on her, and now she's second-guessing her response.
A 12-year-old boy wanted to know how often his mom and dad have sex, and people online had strong opinions about her response.
"Even though I tried to seem calm and cool, it felt just really odd. Maybe because I was taken by surprise," the mom explained on Mumsnet. "I am a very modest person and never talk about sex with friends at all, but [dear son] has far fewer inhibitions and often mentions things I find embarrassing. I would never in a million years have asked that question of my mother!"

After double-checking that he really wanted to know the answer, this mom told him the truth: one to two times per week.
But the more she thought about it, the less comfortable she felt about her decision.
Despite the fact that she'd confirmed with him that he wanted to know, the boy seemed repulsed when he heard the answer — and his mom was left feeling unsure if she did the right thing. She decided to share her experience on the forum to see if she's being unreasonable for feeling mortified about the entire situation. "Has anyone had discussions like that with their [dear children]?" she wrote. "I expect normal 'what is sex' conversations but didn't expect personal questions like that."
