Target’s Popular Car Seat Trade-In Event Is Back — With a Major Twist

It's officially the best time of year: Target's beloved car seat trade-in program is back and better than ever. The amazing program, which was last available in April, is still offering a serious discount on new models for parents who trade in their expired or outgrown car seats for a new one. In honor of Baby Safety Month, parents can clear out the old car seat they no longer use or size up after a kiddo's growth spurt — all while recycling and scoring a hefty discount on their next Target haul — but this time the deal is being expanded.

The trade-in event officially kicks off on September 9 and runs through September 22.

Most parents don't realize that used car seats shouldn't be given away because they expire every six years, according to Target. They also need to be replaced if there's any minor damage, and they typically can't be recycled curbside. That's why Target has been offering this popular exchange program since 2016 that allows parents to save on new car seats while getting rid of their old ones.

But this round is different because the coupon was expanded!

In the past, parents would get one coupon per donated car seat that could be applied both in-store and online on a variety of car seat and stroller options. "We offer a variety of car seat options, so whether baby has outgrown their current seat or it’s simply time for a new model, we’re here to help," Target's website states.

But now, that 20 percent discount can be used on other pricey parenting essentials. "As a bonus, for the first time select baby home gear such as playards, high chairs, swings, rockers, and bouncers are included in the coupon!" Target announced.

Who wouldn't want to score a new version of something they need, without paying full price?

How it works: just head over to your local Target with your old car seats, bases, or booster seats.

All stores, except for "small-format stores," are participating in the program. To get in on the deal, parents simply need take their old car seats to the drop-off boxes near Guest Services. In exchange, a team member will give you a coupon for 20 percent off to shop with.

Target will donate any unwanted car seat to Waste Management, where it will be recycled into new products.

Needless to say, parents are pretty d*mn excited.

This is the seventh time that Target has offered this exchange since its first round in April 2016, and it has made parents swoon every time. The company says that during the last six events, parents handed in more than 306,000 car seats to be recycled, which equals more than 4.6 million pounds of waste saved from ending up in landfills.

The coupon lasts through October 6 so happy shopping!
