Parents Accidentally Leave Newborn in Taxi That Drove Them Home From the Hospital

Two new parents are thanking their lucky stars after their newborn baby was returned to them. In an epic mishap, the mom and dad accidentally left their little one in the taxi that drove them home from the hospital. Of course, the incident was a heart-stopping accident that would upset any new mom or dad, but fortunately for this German couple, their story has a happy ending after the cab driver later noticed the sleeping infant and called the police.

The parents were just getting home from the hospital when they made the ultimate second baby fail.

According to a translation of the Hamburg Police's Facebook post, the parents had spent "a few exciting days in the hospital" and were bringing their second baby home in a cab.

The Daily Mail reported that when they finally got home, they grabbed their other 1-year-old child out of the car, paid the driver, and got out.

It was the exact second that the cab left that the parents realized their mistake.

As police noted, one of the parents tried to run and catch up to the cab but was unable to capture the attention of the driver. The distraught parents called Hamburg police to report that their baby had been driven away.

Because the baby was quietly sleeping in the back, the cab driver had no idea he was still carrying the pint-sized passenger with him. He then reportedly went to go take his lunch break and parked the car in an underground car park. He drove his taxi all the way to the airport to pick up a new passenger, never for a second noticing that he had a stowaway.

It was the next passenger who pointed out that they weren't alone in the car.

Of course, the baby woke up and started to cry. The cab driver then put a call into the police to report the missing child. "After a brief examination of the child by an ambulance crew, we were able to reunite the happy family and ensure a happy reunion," police said.

Kidspot reported that the mistake was ultimately a "big shock" to the parents.

"A review of the family has confirmed that the children are in good hands!" the site added.
