Five years after Adam Vinatieri retired from the NFL after a career that included Super Bowl runs with the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts, the former kicker was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.
While giving his speech at the ceremony, Adam was sure to crack a couple of jokes at former coach Bill Belichick’s expense, and his much younger girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, made him an easy target.
Adam started out by being totally complimentary about his former coach.
As Huff Post reported, Adam brought up Bill about halfway through his speech, complimenting him on what a prolific coach he’s been.
“Thank you for demanding excellence every single day. Your preparation, discipline, and attention to detail shaped far more than my football career,” he said. “Unfortunately, Bill couldn’t make it here today. There’s a lot going on at UNC right now. He may be on a recruiting trip right now looking for the next Lawrence Taylor.”
After leaving the Patriots, Bill, who is 74, is now a college football coach for the North Carolina Tarheels.
Then, he cracked a joke about Jordon.
The fact that Bill is dating someone who is nearly 50 years younger than he is — Jordon is 25, after all — is fodder for a lot of jokes, so of course, Adam had to get one in, too, while he was talking about other possible reasons Bill wasn’t available to make it to the ceremony that day.
“I thought it was because training camp had already started, but in truth, it’s because he’s judging his girlfriend’s cheerleading competition,” he said. “All jokes aside, in my opinion, Bill is the greatest coach of all time.”
The audience was cracking up at that comment, but no word on whether Jordon or Bill thought his joke was funny or not.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame is already a bit of a sore spot for both Bill and Jordon.
Back in February, Jordon posted a screenshot of an order she placed for patches from the Hall of Fame that were then canceled because of “unforeseen circumstances.”
Her Instagram post came just as news broke that Bill fell 10 votes short when it came to determining whether he’d be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2026, too, and at the time, a source told People that Jordon had already been planning a big party to celebrate his induction that ultimately never happened.
If Bill and Jordon are still feeling hurt he was excluded, there’s a very good chance that Adam’s joke wouldn’t have landed well with them. But it was just Bill’s first year being on the ballot — there’s still a chance he’ll get inducted another year.
