Picking out a name for your baby can be stressful. There are so many names out there that it can be difficult to know where to start. Many of us have some aversions to certain names, which could stem from someone we knew in the past such as an ex or the mean kid in school growing up. While it may be hard finding the right name, there are also certain ones that you may want to avoid given the point in history that we are in. Many of these names have negative connotations associated with them, and might be best to be avoided.
KANYE
Kanye is one of the names you will want to avoid if you are having a boy. This name just makes people think of Kanye West, who sunk to new levels in 2020. People wondered about the state of his mental health, including ex-wife Kim Kardashian, when he tried to enter the presidential race. Not exactly a person you want associated with your new baby.
ELLEN
TV host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres also had some weird information come out about her and how she does business. Former employees came forward about how they had been treated while working with her, and it hinted at a toxic environment. The name Ellen may not be the best for your baby girl at this point.
RUDY
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is now connected with anger and screaming matches. Not exactly the type of person you want to associate an innocent baby with. Before all of that craziness, the name was ranked as the 866th most popular baby boy's name back in 2019, and it is safe to say that it will not see a resurgence any time soon.
MELANIA
The most famous Melania of our age is the former first lady Melania Trump. Given who her husband is, along with her own controversies, it is safe to say that the name Melania likely will not be popular this year. It may be best to avoid this name if you are having a baby girl.
BRETT
Many of these names are cursed by being associated with someone infamous. The name Brett is no exception. For this name, it is Brett Kavanaugh. Despite that the name was already decreasing in popularity, having peaked in the late 1990s, it has continued to decrease in popularity as time has gone on. We suspect the Supreme Court judge will not inspire many new namesakes.
ELSA
While the name Elsa is beautiful, it is no longer uncommon. Given the popularity of the Frozen movies, it has become overused. If you are looking for something a bit different, steer clear of this name. It is probably best to leave this one in the past and let it go.
BORIS
When you are thinking of cute names for your baby boy, Boris is not one that you will want to use. First of all, it kind of reminds you of an old man instead of a baby. Another thing is that it will make people think of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is as much of a controversial character as Donald Trump is. You will want to keep looking.
STORMY
Little girls can be a tempest already. You do not want to make things worse by actually naming her Stormy. Not only is it a bad name overall, it also has connections to Stormy Daniels, who supposedly had an affair with Donald Trump. That fiasco is ongoing and not the great start you would like to give to your baby girl.
GUY
The name Guy is one of the most unoriginal names out there. This name has not aged well and is not the best choice for your little boy. It is pretty on the nose. You probably want a name that is a bit more thoughtful for your growing baby. This name is best left in the past.
DELTA
When you are searching for a name for your baby girl, Delta is one to steer away from for now. It is synonymous with Delta Airlines, which seems strange for a girl's name. The name has also become connected with the coronavirus as it's the name of a variant. Not exactly the kind of impression you want your little girl to give.
NICHOLAS
There is no doubt that the name Nicholas with the nickname Nick is a pretty great name. The problem is that it is so popular. It has been in the top 200 baby names since the 1880s. It has stayed in the top names for so long that you may want to go for something more original.
ALEXA
The name Alexa was pretty popular and a good choice before 2014. This drop in popularity is because that was the year that Amazon took the name for its voice assistant. After that happened, the name was not used as much. It is expected to drop in popularity further and is no longer a good choice.
MARK
Mark is another name that has become closely associated with someone famous — Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. He has managed to damage his image a bit by becoming more robotic and thrown off by questions posed by US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The name itself has been on the downturn since the 1990s anyway and is no longer considered a great choice for a baby boy.
KAREN
The name Karen has become associated with entitled white women. It was once a popular name for baby girls, but now has a negative connotation and is a symbol of white entitlement. Unfortunately, this once-popular name is no longer a great choice for your baby girl. It is a name that is best avoided given what it has come to symbolize.
DONALD
The name Donald has been decreasing in popularity, and is currently at its lowest ranking in history. This drop in favor probably has something to do with the controversial former President Donald Trump. Given this association, this name might not be making a comeback any time soon and is probably best kept to the past.
CORONA
While there is not a huge history of the name Corona, any hopes for it becoming popular have been completely dashed now. It is a Latin name that means "wreath" or "crown." It is too bad the its meaning does not matter now given the international health crisis it caused. It may have seemed like an interesting name before, but there's really no hope for it now.
