It's been just about six months since Bridgerton officially made its Netflix debut, and yes, we're still completely in love with the world that author Julia Quinn created in her series of romance novels on which the show is based. The love story between Daphne and Simon, the regency England backdrop, the wardrobe — it's all perfection. And since this love is quickly turning into an obsession, is it any surprise that we're thinking about characters that could potentially be a future baby's namesake?
It's not strange at all to gain inspiration from beloved TV shows, movies, and books when it comes to finding the perfect baby name, and with so many characters in the Bridgerton universe, there are a lot of options to choose from. While some names, like Cressida and Prudence, aren't quite as popular these days, most of the names — including Penelope, Eloise, and Colin — are timeless picks that will never go out of style, no matter how baby name trends change.
Here are 20 Bridgerton-inspired baby names to get you started. There's no doubt that the next season will give us even more ideas!
DAPHNE
Perhaps one of the most obvious names to use in the Bridgerton series would be Daphne, Phoebe Dynevor's character. She was the main character of the show's first season, after all — and as a name, Daphne is timeless, not trendy, which can be a big plus for parents who don't want their baby's names to go out of style.
SIMON
Another totally classic name, this time, taken from the Duke of Hastings himself. Regé-Jean Page's character made everyone fall in love with him — including those of us who were simply watching at home. Simon comes from Hebrew and means "hearing," and can we really afford to turn down any good juju that might make a baby-to-be a good listener?
VIOLET
Now, we must pay tribute to Lady Bridgerton herself, whose first name happens to be Violet. This name is totally in right now (and celebs like John Krasinski and Emily Blunt have chosen it for their children, too). Of all the names inspired by colors and flowers, this is one of the most adorable.
ANTHONY
As the oldest child in the Bridgerton family, Anthony (played by Jonathan Bailey) is also the viscount — and who the second season of the Netflix series will focus on. Aside from representing this dutiful brother, the name Anthony is Roman and means "highly praiseworthy." Uh, not all of Anthony's choices fall into that category, but at least he tries.
CHARLOTTE
Not only is Charlotte a classic yet wildly popular name for baby girls these days, it's also the name of one of the most prominent characters in the Bridgerton TV adaptation's universe. Who are we talking about? Queen Charlotte, of course, the HBIC in their regency England world.
PENELOPE
Not only is Penelope one of the most beloved characters (and the best Featherington sister by far), but she also happens to be the woman behind Lady Whistledown herself. It would only be right to honor a baby with her name, which means "weaver" in German and also goes back to Greek mythology.
BENEDICT
What would Bridgerton be without the second oldest in the family, Benedict? Though the name might sound old fashioned, it's tried and true — and it has a pretty sweet meaning. Benedict comes from Latin, meaning "blessed," and isn't that a feeling that a lot of babies give their parents?
FRANCESCA
Time to talk about one of the younger Bridgertons who definitely didn't get the screen time she deserved this season! Played by Ruby Stokes, Francesca is the third youngest member of the family, and her name is classic baby girl inspiration. Plus, the possibilities for adorable nicknames are endless: Frankie, Chessa, Franny …
ELOISE
Eloise isn't just a little girl who once lived at the Plaza hotel — it's also the name of Daphne Bridgerton's younger sister, who is looking for so much more than the Regency life has laid out before her. The name Eloise is French and means "healthy," and who doesn't want to call their baby girl Weezie?!
COLIN
Colin Bridgerton (who is played by Luke Newton) was really going through it in the first season, huh? There was his very dramatic entanglement with Marina, plus Penelope's massive crush on him, and that's barely scratching the surface. But as a name, Colin is simple, strong, and will never sound dated.
MARINA
While we're on the topic of Colin, we'd be totally remiss if we didn't mention Marina, his fiancée for just a moment in time, as an option for a baby girl. This name is Latin and, predictably, means "from the sea" — a great option for parents who are looking to incorporate their love of Bridgerton and water in their baby's name all in one go.
SIENA
Poor Siena! Her affair with Anthony on the show didn't quite go as planned (for either of them), but she's one of the most passionate characters by far. As a name, Siena references the Italian city of the same name and spelling, though more commonly in America, we'll see it spelled Sienna.
NIGEL
Even if we hadn't been rooting so hard for Simon and Daphne to get together, we still wouldn't have wanted her to end up with Nigel Berbrooke. And even though some fans didn't love him, others thought he was a pretty funny character. The name Nigel is definitely an option — it comes from Irish and means "champion."
HYACINTH
As far as the Bridgerton fam goes, Hyacinth is the youngest member, and thereby the most mischievous and adorable. Her name calls back to the flower, it comes from Greek, evoking thoughts of the color purple (much like Hyacinth's mom's name on the show, Violet).
WILL
Remember Will Mondrich (played by Martins Imhangbe), Simon's BFF and a fellow fighter? Will might be a more common, traditional name, but for some, that's the goal of choosing the perfect baby boy name. And whether going with Will or William, it's a more low-key way to reference your favorite show.
PRUDENCE
While the Bridgerton children are named in alphabetical order, in the Featherington family, the daughters' names all start with P. Though Penelope is the youngest, one of her older sisters is Prudence — a Latin word that means good judgment. That remains to be seen for the character, though…
PHILIPA
Another solid P-name for the middle Featherington sister! Philipa, played by Harriet Cains, is a fiery redhead like the rest of her family, and her name means "lover of horses." There are tons of cute nicknames that go along with this name, like Pippa, as a major bonus!
GREGORY
Of course, one of the youngest Bridgerton boys has a classic name much like the rest of his family. Gregory is a name that's been around forever and will be around forever, after all. Interestingly enough, it originally comes from the name "Gregorious," which means "watchful."
FRIEDRICH
On Bridgerton, Friedrich is the name of the prince of Prussia who also happens to be Queen Charlotte's nephew — and the man who Daphne almost married before ending up living happily ever after with Simon. Friedrich is a German name that means "peaceful ruler," though the English version is the more familiar Frederick.
CRESSIDA
In Bridgerton, Cressida Cowper might have thought she'd be the diamond of the season, but Daphne quickly took that glimmer of hope away from her. The name Cressida is a Greek name that means "gold," and though it's not as popular as it once was, it's a beautiful pick.
