Going to the park alone with your child comes with its own set of potential dangers. But what if you are thought to be the danger yourself? That’s what happened for one mom, who shared her story on Reddit and wrote that the police were actually called on her after other parents were suspicious of her behavior with other kids at the park. According to her, all she was guilty of was being a present mom for her child.
The mom wrote in her post on Reddit that she took her 5-year-old son to the park, which has an attached wooded trail. She shared that he is autistic and that when he got overstimulated with the number of kids around him, she took him on a walk to the nearby slightly secluded trail.
But when other kids followed them in, curious, things got uncomfortable for the mom and, apparently, other parents. So much so, in fact, that after one kid at the park went missing temporarily, this mom was the immediate suspect.
A mom at the park said other parents were suspicious of her behavior with other kids at the park.

The mom wrote in her Reddit post that after she started spinning her son on the merry-go-round at the playground, a group of kids hopped on as well. She continued to spin it for a little while until her son got overwhelmed and wanted to get off. She followed him toward a little trail that led to a wooded area at the park. Unbeknownst to the mom, one of the kids from the merry-go-round had followed them to the trail and even into the wooded area.
After there were shouts from the playground, the mom told the boy to go back because his parents might be looking for him. A little while later, after the mom and her son returned from their walk on the trail, another parent approached her. According to the mom, he asked if she took a little girl into the woods with her. She immediately said that she didn’t but that a little boy did briefly follow her and her son on the trail.
“He walked off and I heard him tell his wife or gf or whoever that I said I didn’t see their daughter and the woman screamed ‘she’s lying!!! I seen her go into the woods with her,'” the mom wrote in her post. “I realize they lost their daughter and tried asking what she looked like but they ignored me so I just kept playing with my son, a few minutes later I see the parents with a little girl and they were calmed down so they must have found her.”
Later, when she was back home with her son, police arrived at her house. Although no one arrested her, she explained in her post that she was “reported as being suspicious trying to take kids into the woods.” Which, she said, did not happen. But the entire ordeal left her feeling uncomfortable.
When someone on the Reddit thread asked how anyone at the park even knew where she lived, she explained that a parent had given officers her license plate number. No charges were filed, and she wasn’t arrested, but the fact that the woman was seen as suspicious and reported as such left a bad taste in her mouth.
Most of the users in the comments section, however, were on the mom’s side.
“I’ve noticed people are being bolder nowadays to cover up the fact they dont want anyone to assign blame when they are wrong,” one Redditor commented. “Rather [than] admit they weren’t watching there kid they set up a false narrative that gives a better ‘story.'”
