One dad has gone viral for the unexpected way he comforts his newborn baby when she cries. Many parents have tried techniques like rocking, swaddling, or singing a song, and even though this dad’s approach isn’t totally unique, his newborn’s clear music preferences have garnered a lot of attention, because they are.
On Instagram, dad Jeraun Richards shared a video that showed him trying to comfort his 1-month-old daughter. Initially, Jeraun and his brothers tried singing a children’s song, “Baby Shark,” as the newborn cried. But eventually, Jeraun said, “Nope. That ain’t gonna work.”
He clearly knew the unexpected trick that would help calm his baby: singing “Nokia” by Drake, for some reason. Shortly after Jeraun and his brothers started singing the song, his baby stopped crying. “I think my baby just wants to be at a concert every day,” the dad captioned the amusing clip.
Reacting to the adorable clip in the comments, one person commented, “Momma was definitely listening to good music the whole pregnancy.” Others joked that the baby stopped crying out of pure confusion. “baby wondering what’s going on,” another one of the dad’s followers wrote.
The video made it seem as though the newborn has very specific – and unexpected – music preferences. But Drake is not the only artist she seems to enjoy. In another video, Jeraun calmed his baby down by singing “Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap. “I think my baby is from 2015 because what tf going on 😂😂😂😂,” he jokingly captioned the video.
Although some people told the dad he just needs to sing “Baby Shark” with more enthusiasm and dedication, others found humor in the baby’s apparent taste in music. “She’s not like the other babies she’s a cool baby,” one person joked.
Jeraun told Newsweek that at this point in time, his newborn doesn’t seem particularly interested in music that’s meant for babies. For now, he might have to rely on Drake and Fetty Wap.
