Parenting multiple kids is hard enough without needing to rely on your partner for things that, apparently, don’t always get done. At least, that was the case for one dad, who was featured in a viral TikTok video when he forgot to dress his older child in what was presumed to be a “big sister” outfit to meet her little sister when the mom gave birth. Now, other people in the comment section of the video, which is no longer available, are coming for the dad.
Although most can’t believe the dad would forget something that was obviously important to the mom, others aren’t surprised. At this point, according to some women and moms in the comments under the TikTok video, it’s hard to expect much more from men in general. Unfortunately for the dad who totally dropped the ball on this one, he was at the mercy of the internet.
The internet called out a dad who may have ruined his daughter’s first meeting with her baby sister.
Although the original video features no comments with comments turned off, one commenter on TikTok shared it in a post and shared her commentary on what happened with the parents and the big sister outfit debacle. In the video the TikToker shared, a mom is holding her newborn daughter right after giving birth. The person who shared it describes what happened in the original video, which can no longer be viewed. While it was up, however, the clip showed an uncomfortable interaction with the parents.
In the clip, the dad apparently brings his and his wife’s older daughter to meet her big sister. When the mom sees that the older child isn’t wearing a pre-planned big sister-themed outfit, she expresses this to the dad. He, in turn, appears to be annoyed with her. Because of the way the person describes the original video, others left comments to share their frustration with the dad at such a crucial moment for his children and his wife.
“We are expected to be e[c]static about mediocre men and praising them for doing the bare minimum,” one person commented.
Another wrote, “She probably bought the outfit, put it somewhere obvious, told him where it was, and explained why it was important to her. The ‘who cares, it’s no biggie’ people are missing the point.”
The issue, according to other TikTok comments, is that the mom clearly did not feel heard. And shortly after she gave birth to their second child, she is faced with evidence of this.
“I gave up wanting anything after I gave birth,” one person shared in the comment section. “The simplest things were just out of the question. Now that I’m a single parent, it’s easier. You can’t be let down when you are the one doing it all.”
The video and its description led to some speculation on the couple too, with one person writing, “I would bet he’s mad that he has to ‘babysit’ their older daughter.”
Others came to the dad’s defense in the comments.
Not everyone sees the mom’s point of view from the original video.
“Maybe he forgot. Maybe it got stained. Maybe the kid pitched a fit about wearing it,” one person commented. “Maybe dad was trying to race back to be with his new baby and wife. Count blessings not mistakes.”
Another backed that up with, “Honestly tho, the mom shouldn’t care so much about an outfit. Like there’s more important things going on.”
Mostly, though, people can’t understand what the heck the dad was thinking, especially after he got upset with the mom after she called him out on what he clearly did not do.
